Referring to the English Heritage letter to James Hall (IHCT). It is clear that additional work and drawings need ot be done - particularly on pew storage and toilets. ".. appalled at the time this has taken..." Suggest joint meeting with Dr Heley and Mr Mellamphy.

Heley, Margaret Mary (Maire) Dr (1930-2020)Company owns the wall on Lady Lane where the plaque is to be installed replacing an exisitng plaque. Mr Mellamphy, the artist, has been in contact and will continue to act as liaison officer.
Heley, Margaret Mary (Maire) Dr (1930-2020)Apologises for the delay in replying - due to Mr Mellamphy's continuing illness. Sets out the background to the hope for an Ecumenical Centre in St Nicholas Church. "Naively unaware of the obstacle race before us..." the project proceeded, funds raised, a launch event. Removal of pews a precursor for the project; with #52,000 raised it was a shock to receive your letter and realise the differences in vision for the use of St Nicholas. Invitation to meet and discuss.
Heley, Margaret Mary (Maire) Dr (1930-2020)Need to get assurance that the damp problems will be sorted out; reluctant to sign a lease otherwise. Robert Mellamphy asks for you to obtain a copy of the Council's report on the drainage at St Nicholas.
Heley, Margaret Mary (Maire) Dr (1930-2020)Robert Mellamphy in touch with Mr Hatcher for a programme of work. Cash is available for the vestry work, but need to fund raise to do more. Cannot launch an Appeal until seen to be using it. Bibleway are no longer in contact.
Heley, Margaret Mary (Maire) Dr (1930-2020)Apprehension over the St Nicholas project - cannot personally subsidise the project and doubt that others can or would. Whilst Meryemana should continue in its work, doubt that St Nicholas is the right place.
The letter is an invitation to attend a Meryemana Council meeting to elicit a final decision on what happens next.
Jack Earwaker is about to retire but is handing over to Mr Hatcher. Need to agree financial arrangements
HoopersMr Earwaker lists the estimates associated with each item of work sent to him by Dr Heley on 2 November 1988 (listed overleaf)
"Total £180,000, but say £200,000"
JS Hall - no objection in principal a dig in the church (need to discuss with Mr Hatcher); reluctant to have pews removed on a permanent basis. Dr Heley to write a short article on Meryemana for the Trust's newsletter? Mr Mellamphy should return keys (even those he may have had copied) to the Trust until the lease is completed.
