Michael Ward expresses concern over the state of affairs at Walsingham. As he has no official status other than as Chair of the Appeals Committee he cannot interfere. Have asked Michael Wingate for his observation on overspending on the Appeal. "I do not think you could find a worse combination to manage a complex organisation than two schoolmasters!"

You will have been instructed by Canon McBride to withdraw planning application immediately.
This land belongs to EA RC Diocese Trustee. Toller should have considered any planning application - the Finance Board confirmed this in September. Only discovered this through a chance discussion with Mrs Broughton at the Pilgrim Bureau. Canon McBride will propose a meeting in the New year.

Glass door installed in bar by Mr Siequence allows access to church forecourt. Mr S claims removal of wall improves appearance generally, and he claims it was built n his own land and therefore does need permission to remove it. He is not going to enter into the agreement; no guarantee that proceedings will be successful. The Hotel is for sale so any agreement may not be imposed on his successor. Limit contact (to aid communication on these matters) to Fr Williams only.

Have the sale details for the Black Lion Hotel. Purchasing it for £200,000 may bot be affordable but it does represent an opportunity to ensure the Parish Church could be redeveloped at some date in the future

Furniture still stored in the old function room; it was agreed that you could store items for a period however in March this year you no longer wanted to store furniture there. His clients wish to be fair and allow you to continue to store for a period of two months under licence so long as no further items are stored, that you pay a peppercorn rent, and that the room is not for your exclusive use. Willing to discuss when in Walsingham within the next seven days.

Boundary wall has been demolished. Refers to an unfinished agreement of 4 May 1993 in which an agree demolition route was proposed. Diocese Trustee may have no alternative than to commence proceedings. Will you conclude the agreement retrospectively and he will discuss with Diocese Trustee if they would be content with this?

The First National Commercial Bank has suggested to Mr Siequence that he could retain the kitchen and hence not give vehicular access form Market Lane. He turned this down. Bank confident that they can obtain a court order for possession when the matter returns to court in February or March. Little to do but wait until then.

Letter from Eversheds (4-12-1992) and Witham Weld (7-12-1992). No documents showing the right of way owned by the Trustee. Rev Hawkes to produce the Statutory Declaration. Trustees will probably need to pay the premium - Obit Housing Association will not.

Offer of £80,000 by clients (East Anglia RC Diocese Trustee) for land and buildings at rear of Black Lin Hotel. Require pedestrian access (not vehicular) and do not need the Black Lion kitchen (which will avoid any necessity to go to court). Will need to inspect site if offer accepted. Also need to negotiate with Black Lion Hotel owners, Mr & Mrs Seiquence.

Kenneth Powell, consultant director, is very clearly against the proposal for the new window in the Slipper Chapel. The Webb window is "a valuable work of art in its own right". To cut down the Webb window would be a "sheer act of vandalism". He is quite scathing about the proposed Fisher design. Notwithstanding Mgr McBride's assurances he recalls "destructive alterations seriously damaged the character of a fine Giles Scott interior" at St Joseph in Sheringham, McBride's own Church.

The arrangement with Chapel Studio was suggested by the Shrine solicitor, Adrian Kellett, all parties to sign and hold a copy. Hopes that the window will be ready for its blessing by Cardinal Daly on August 20th.
