Part of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, King's Lynn

If your system for catechism is working then continue. But be on hand. Benediction after class rounds it off nicely. Fr Page, I know is not grand, but "creaking doors last longest". He would not bear an assistant and went through that trouble in the time of his predecessor Fr Colpman. I am sure he'd rather retire. Need to wait for a solution to present itself.

Dr Sexton reports on his attendance upon Canon Eeles and that the Canon is far from being able to resume his duties, especially those of Palm Sunday and Holy Week. Fr Page has helped in these difficulties admirably. Suggests that the Canon has a rest away from the Parish for at least three weeks. His Duodena condition is improved but he needs to take care. His heart is not in a good condition.
manuscript annotation: "Answered: Have written to Canon Eeles to follow your directions, even to going away for a bit. Mch 26/26"

R S Flynn (Fr Flynn's father) writes to inform the Bishop that his son has Bronchitis following on from Influenza. He might not be able to say mass on Sunday - the doctor hopes that he will. Mr Flynn, Snr. feels his son is too limp and washed out. Fr Page has been asked to help, but it is thought he too may be ill.
Manuscript annotation: "Answered. Too late to find a supply. Better stay in bed rather than risk after effects of "Flu" if Fr Page cannot help him."

Part of Our Lady of Good Counsel and St Peter Parish, March

Responding to Fr Flanagan regarding missing Ramsey Register. He's not got it. Understands Fr Flanagan saying that nothing in Church funds - he wonders where it has gone: money left from bazaar, Bp Elwes did stop his concerts, legacy (From Mrs Ten Broeck) of £1200. Latter can be used to repay mortgage debt. Finally more important matter - attend to my furniture?!

Cheque for £2.10 being the Cathedraticum from Fr Rigby, Fr Ketterer, Fr Allen, Fr Page & Canon Eeles. Other claim exemption. Discusses arrangements for masses especially when the doctor considers he can do low masses but is concerned about the long fast - perhaps the Canon could take some liquid nourishment between masses. Fr Flynn was looking well today at the conference. Absentees were Fr Page (with a chill), Fr Allen ( Children's Entertainment) & Fr Drage.

Received a telephone message form the Catholic nurse looking after Canon Eeles. They have to operate in a day or two - it is the only way to clear the blockage. However the doctor also said that the fatty heart makes the operation risky. Fr page is unwell. canon Youens is due in Lynn tomorrow.

Glad to be offered the choice of accepting a permanent placement at Lynn (his decision and not that of others, including the Jesuits!).
His mother has accepted the situation - she was never sure of his conversion and thought that to be placed nearby would "let the cat out of the bag". Canon Eeles was a holy man and following him is a big task. Asks permission to tell certain congregation members with a particular interest in his appointment.
manuscript annotation: "Ans: Sent canonical appointment. Also directions for Induction by Dean, Fr Page, to whom I also wrote. Nov 15/26."

Writing from the Catholic Rectory in Norwich.
Has been in correspondence with Fr Page who he hopes will provide the lie of the land before he retires back to Wisbech. Such a task so soon after ordination. Have been very happy in Norwich, but does not wish to add to the bishop's troubles, whom he saw at Leeds. He has no means on which to draw should he be faced with an empty house. "On the other hand, I have kept house for five years in Canada in Spartan style & am quite able, & prepared to "rough it"."
manuscript annotation: "Answered: We all have to act on the call of duty! In the old days a man had to go straight from Seminary to the Mission, as you were warned you might have to do! I know you from ancient circumstances, so do not be afraid. In all these things put your trust in Our lord and His Holy Mother. June 16/26."

Fr Page & Mr Ollard are coming over for the Induction, Fr Ketterer will be the other witness. Need to retrieve belongings from Norwich.
manuscript annotation: "Advised on receipt of Freeland's letter, to come later, as you will be so busy over Bazaar. Other matters that he will feel 'de trop' getting his things together. Also told him the golden rule that once one has left a place, it is [?] overland[?] too often & [?] to omit old bad choices. Nov 20/26."

Seems very quiet after Norwich. Visiting people, undertaking a census, catechism at the school. No changing anything - even as suggestions come in. Long and interesting talk with Fr Page one evening.
manuscript annotation: "Answered: Just Carry on! Do you find proximity to Wisbech & Glen[?] in any way Embarrassing or annoying. June 30/26"
