Writing to "Charles" [Bishop Grant?] As anticipate costs are rising. Donovan Purcell is trying to keep them down but there is a shortfall (despite moneys expected from Birmingham and Middlesborough). Looking for a guarantee of £4/5,000 to avoid embarrassment.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Discussing tenders from Fisher's and from Rogers. Clive [Fr Birch] running into the red - overdrafts were normal for Roland [Fr Connelly] although not so high; Fr Wilson to advise. John Hawkes' plan welcomed. Point about letting a church hall out to Later Day Saints on a regular basis.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Admiration for the plans drawn up - designate as "the ideal order" with beauty and practicality. However, financial consideration compel a halt and aborting the project. Consider a new direction and centre around the "Outside Altar", a watertight sanctuary and £300,000 budget. Fr Birch to liaise with Purcell, et al.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Encourage Fr Birch to take over more. Use original architects (Miller & Tritton). Accepts suggestion of transfer of Hulme properties to Walsingham Trust.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Residents on Field Lane are complaining about the parking habits of those going to the church. Needs action to identify and use additional parking spaces - use the school playing field?
Borough of King's LynnUnless there has been a change in intended use for the building then the previous planning permission will stand. If there is a widening of uses then planning permission needs to be applied for.
Borough of King's Lynn£100 asked for by Mr Foster for three plaster models of Our Lady proposed for the centre main entrance. Fr Connelly, on holiday currently, had written saying "little hope of an early decision".

However, the water penetration report is unacceptable. There is no blockage in the guttering - none of the retention money will be released until satisfactorily corrected. The revision to the design was to eliminate leaks and this has been unsuccessful. Direct the contractor to make good.

Imagines that the bishop has seen the report in the EDP - possible one in the Catholic Herald soon too! He summarises the situation with the Red Mount Chapel and would be pleased to see the Department of the Environment take on responsibility for it.
Hammond, Leo Andrew Rev (1913-1999)Bishop had originally approved £300 expenditure; subsequent authoprity given fro urgent repairs not to exceed £500. Dept of Environment authorised addtional work - without confirming in writing and now will not pay anything towards it. The builders [Carter] may reduce their bill by £120; discussion on other adjjustments/contributions; parish may be left with £400 to make up. This is a "priceless little treasure of Our Blessed Lady's".
Hammond, Leo Andrew Rev (1913-1999)Surprised at the issueing of a £300 certificate for Carter's. Stated several times - no money, only a few pounds for running expenses. Carters original estimate was for £500 and no authority was given for extra work required by Ministry of Environment.

Hammond, Leo Andrew Rev (1913-1999)Fr Moorcraft is "really rather peeved" at having to pay for work he is unaware of. Mr Foster has been paid £50 on account - this will be added to the Walsingham debt.
Moorcraft, Gerald William Rev (1936-2011)Fr Connelly being away for some weeks means he cannot be consulted about the plaster models. Fr Moorcraft is unaware of this work but will pay Mr Foster £50 because of the delay and will speak to Fr Connelly on his return.
