Witham Weld & Co (Joseph Weld) wrote to the Chief Inspector of Taxes for refund of tax for the Presbytery. Deed only refers to the land. Question is what date was it built. Fr Purcell has no record of when the Presbytery was built but thinks it was two years or so after the foundation stone for the church was laid in 1902.

Copy of an agreement to grant way leave for a drain. Between Miss Sarah Ann Skeeles of Slepe Cottage, King's Road and Rev Joseph Tonks of the Presbytery, Kettering, Northamptonshire. The drain is connected to a Scullery and WC at the Studio and crosses under her land to access the public sewer in East Street. 2/6d is the annual rent for this. Cotman named as a sub-tenant.

Compares £80 rent (Hose and small garden) with what she currently pays for the convent £110 (26 rooms, 2 acres of land, a tennis court, a cottage and a Summer house.). Cost of furnishing - £60 (Diocese lend it and she pays £5 per month back) . Do it for a year's trial.

Freeland admonishes Fr Malone for "YOUR PRECIPITATE ACTION WITH REGARD TO [sic capitals] the property at St Neots has placed me in a very invidious position. I must either give my approval or quarrel with Canon Tonks...". Asks Fr Malone whether he would have behaved in the same manner when the Bishop had been alive. It should have gone before the Finance Board for consideration.
