The Cardinal, a patron of the nuns [Serafini?], is visiting Woodbridge and lunching at Aldeburgh. Can the Bishop attend for lunch on 24th? heard from Canon Tonks. Does not need funds raised from sale of land; considers the house is sufficient and needs a little work. Hence the request for a mortgage of £100 to enable him to address the house and grounds.
Manuscript annotation: "Answered. Sorry cannot come to lunch on 24th. You must do the honours for the Card. If you can do without more money then I shall be grateful. The money for sale of old [indecipherable] , Normanhurst land go towards purchase of Normanhurst; U.S. Maryland[?] goes towards old liabilities. Fr Long will be no good to you for a long time."

Mr & Mrs Hutchinson are the right sort of people. The house will want painting on the outside - but not an expensive job. Asks for a Diocesan loan of £30 to cover the bills already forwarded. The Tower has been such a source of expense - most of which he has tackled.

Fr Flanagan writing to "Monsignor" [Canon Tonks?] that he has asked the Bishop for an interview to present his documents and bring some supporting parishioners. Majority in Aldeburgh know nothing of "this agitation". The Bishop has been asked to visit on 3 occasions - he did not come. He is not being treated well with an external priest in the parish and interfering with it. Fr Davidson has written to the Vicar-General about this matter. Only fair to have a hearing.

Fr Flanagan is asking for permission under Canon Law to take legal action against Sister Mary of Aldeburgh Convent. Canon Tonks has a copy of the "grave statement".

Fr Flanagan mentions that the Bishop's solution last April was "a thorough Visitation of the Convent". He says that he was sent to Aldeburgh to settle the Convent affair as Fr Davidson had difficulties with the Revd. Mother, and that the Bishop had promised to back him up. It would be fair & just for the Bishop to forward the letters to him so that he could provide a written answer to the "alleged charges". Fr Davidson says he has asked leave to take legal action against Sister Mary (the Superior).

£400 due at end of month. Has asked Mr Reade to send bill to Canon Tonks. Arrangements for payment may involve a post-dated cheque as Fr Davidson wishes to see this small builder paid early. [Bishop manuscript annotation: "Do with this (Canon Tonks) as you see fit, i.e. send cheque at once or wait till Davidson's return"]. Fr Davidson will try to raise more money in Spain with help of the Spanish lady here. Lost the Bishop's questions regarding Religious Instruction - but says there are 14[13?] in Aldeburgh and 12 in Leiston who attend Catechism; he does extra help for individual cases. [Bishop manuscript annotation: [?] another copy [?][?]full up!]. Parnell trouble: with the Bishop's support Fr Davidson will have the strength to deal with her (described as a bully and ultimately a coward) and be friendly but not discuss parish business. A Real hope for the Church by December.
