Refers to a discussion with Mgr Freeland about a notice in the Catholic papers regarding Wymondham [no subject given]. Would Bishop consider an application from a prises about to leave a religious order? This priest can get testimonials from his order and the Vicar General of his Diocese, he also has some years experience as a PP.
Manuscript annotation: "Send times of Mass, etc. at Wymondham. I'll send the papers. [rest illegible]... Aug 6 / 26"

Writing from St Mary's Abbey, Buckfast, Fr Phillips believes that he can raise £100 a year for some years and if £175 is sufficient for the Mission and him, then he could start in a fortnight if convenient to Mgr Freeland. His next address is "Eastlands", Basingstoke.
Manuscript annotation: "I hope I have not asked too much. I don't want you to ruin [illegible], but to help out your income. Perhaps I did not quite understand your financial position. Dated the Feast of St Stanilaus (April 11). Missed the Bishop's visit to Yarmouth since Fr Thompson was running 3 short retreats in Birmingham. Needs faculties for Fr Salvatore Pace who is replacing Fr Harper (posted to an easier berth). Would have preferred that Fr Courtney went instead as he is more of an invalid and less efficient than Fr Harper. Fr Pace will be very useful in rounding up the Italian colony who "Have no gotta Inglese". Fr Pace is Maltese and educated at the English College in Malta. After joining the Jesuits he was with the French i n Syria, the Italians in Naples and spent six years at "the hardest mission we have - St Joseph's, North Woodside, Glasgow. I went through that 'black quarry' as it was locally called in 1899"
Manuscript annotation: "Sent Faculties. Also asked thoughts on to help Gorleston with Sunday Mass when Stanley has left for Phanbelin[?]"

Having tried hard to improve his report, he was shocked to receive the Bishop's letter. In the four years at college he has not been able to complete any of them them due to illness: broken collar bone, appendicitis, rupture. He has a continuing desire to be a priest and will get there and asks for another chance unless the Bishop sees fit to dismiss him - "even though I am and know below the average in brains".
