Thanks Bishop for kind letter, also for promising to make her payments until she can repay. Her agent has given many of the stamps (Adoration of the Maji) away and she has only 1000 sheets of 16 available to sell. Met Cardinal Gasquet (then Abbot) and he seem interested in them. The proceeds of the sale would be for the March Mission.

As Church of March is dedicated to Our Lady & St Peter would Bishop allow Exposition of Blessed Sacrament with Procession at Benediction on Sunday in octave of St Peter & Paul & Sunday in octave of Assumption? Bishop annotated reply: "Yes, but not procession of Blessed Sacrament out of doors".

Thanks him for permission fro Exposition. Re Corpus Christi Procession; they had to go out because church was full. Protestants looking on were respectful with some exceptions. They only walked about 20 yds on road, rest on private land. Bishop annotated reply: "No procession necessary or advisable".

Advises that Collingwood's house should not be bought, gives reasons (including in very poor repair). He is strongly in favour of plot on which 2 houses are, in one of which Fr Clare lives. Regards both as very valuable, believes it would be very unwise to part with them. Asks Bishop to wire as Leggett (buyer) needs response.

Ulcer gone but still unwell. Will take a week's holiday if he can find priest to take over. Fr Campbell of Bishop's Stortford upset he cannot find a priest to come.

Forwards Fr Clare's letter [re plan, etc.]. He would decline offer. Repeats that present houses & land are great asset for diocese. Considers Fr Clare's chopping and changing not helpful.

Thanks him for wires received. Levett willing to pay £1450 for property. Hopes he will not change his mind. Ollard will see him this morning as Fr Clare sent details re price last night. He is feeling much better at present. Margate contact address is "Berkely House, Dalby Square, Margate".

Builder getting on well with new presbytery. 1st payment nearly due. Hopes Ollard has sent cheque for 2 houses, all money is paid in.
Bishop annotation: "1st I heard about Presbytery being started! Will pay nothing out until officially informed money all paid in & made over to me! Do not pay what you realised by concert"

He had given Ollard full instructions re money. Saw him again & he had forgotten what Fr Clare had told him & deposited money at bank. Said he would put matters right at once. Only made £11 as expenses very heavy. Better than nothing.

Levett paid balance of purchase money in November. After conveyancing Ollard put balance on deposit. Fr Clare says Bishop wants money paid to him. Enclosed cheque for £1000. Interest to follow. Asks for cheque for Eggitt to be made payable to him.

Encloses form asking permission to receive 2 men into Church. Reminding him that Fr Filmer will be giving Mission at March next month for 10 days. Asking him to grant faculties. Annotation: "All granted".

He wrote to Commercial Union Insurance on hearing of Fr Stanley's death. Premium had been paid. Builders doing good job with presbytery. Fr Filmer great Missionary. Moving out in 2 days.

Enclosed photo of new presbytery to be finished by end of month. Reports return of illness. Asks if he knows name of a specialist. Asks for grant from Sick Clergy Fund. May he take liquid food between 2 Easter Sunday Masses at Romsey & March?

Presbytery Account for - Architect, Builder & Solicitor

He has just written to Canon Tonks re letter from him about Presbytery accounts. Believes misunderstanding exists. Writes to explain & goes into details.
Bishop annotation: "New bill will have to be put into a businesslike way by Canon Tonks. No extras may be ordered without leave of Bishop. June 12 1925."

Identifies the boy as son of Gordon Cleather. Boy suffered from night terrors, nerves and knew not the meaning of "obedience". Much improved situation. Understood that the boy would have been certified insane otherwise. In which case he could not have cared for him as he'd found out where he stood in law before taking him on. Would Bishop contact Dr Evison if in doubt.
Bishop annotation: "Don't let care of boy interfere with your duties as Missionary for March, Chatteris & Ramsay. ?? 12 1925".

Father Filmer is to give 10 day Mission in December at March. Asks for faculties for him if he has not already got them for the Diocese. 2 good Catholics moving to March. Town is growing at a huge pace.
