To note that the letter of May 20th indicated approval for the proposed Instrument of Management for Beccles and Bungay RC schools.

Daughter allocated to John Leman school, Beccles, after passing examinations for entrance to a Grammar School. Contacted Chief Education Officer that their preferred school was St Mary's, Lowestoft. Following a means test she has to pay all fees but travelling fares are met by the committee and part of meal costs was offered. Are she being treated fairly?

Leslie R Missen, Chief Education Offer: Children over 11 at Beccles RC school (to be reclassified as Junior/Infant)) should be going to the Beccles County Modern School.

Mr Loftus' letter was considered by the sub-committee. Unable to accept responsibility for the additional cost of £125. This decision will be forwarded to the main committee on 28 November.

The managers of St Benet's (RCV) School have passed a resolution to apply for grant aided status. Form 18 will be sent after consultation with ecclesiastical authorities. It is proposed that senior children shall go, with those from Yarmouth and Gorleston, to a planned Catholic Modern Secondary School (mixed) at Gorleston.

Opportunity for the working people to see the ceremony. Sufficient priest secured; Frs Banham SJ and Miller are certainties, himself and Fr Vermeulin [sic], Fr Helsham SJ is being asked for from the Provincial SJ. Need a supply for Fr Squirrell. Enclosed the Bishop's letter [not present].

Need to minimise the use of corporal punishment at St Benet's and provides guidance until next managers' meeting:

1. only for serious breaches of discipline
2. not on the hands
3. not publicly in front of the class.
