Part of The Sacred Heart Parish, St Ives

The writer is directed by the Board of Trustees to ask for a reply to their letter of 15 December 1909. Fr Purcell is asked what arrangements he has made regarding the properties from which he receives rent. The writer call to Fr Purcell's notice that if the properties are not kept in good repair then "Mr Pauling, the great benefactor of your mission may cease to take further interest in the work at St Ives".
[The letter ends at this point - it is an unsigned draft]

Part of Our Lady and St Peter Parish, Aldeburgh

Excellent start: rent-free house and gardens; sites for Aldeburgh & Leiston chapels secured. Need to check on conveyance restrictions and re-convey the buildings to Diocesan Trustees (suggested names: Bishop, Fr Delaney, Fr Hugh Parker, Fr Austin O'Sullivan), take your solicitor's advice. Model Trust Deed available. Leiston chapel seems cheap - but need to consider extension in the future, hence make the walls higher to avoid tunnel appearance. For maintenance, use Mission receipts, but in the intervening months Bishop would provide funds through the Poor Mission Fund (Canon Ashmole will send an application form).

Part of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and St Edmund Parish, Hunstanton

manuscript annotation: "26-I-88 Our letters crossed - but are, I think, substantially the same".
Off to Peru soon. Outlines the parameters in the design of a church with associated priest's bungalow. Dersingham is in the Hunstanton parish and therefore its monies will be subsumed into that account. Whilst Fr Flynn's personal expenses will be quite small, need to consult Fr Nesden about the expenses for running the church from parish funds.

How are things going at Burnham Market? Bishop receives reports which are not accepted on face value. Are you happy in your charge? Are yo staying for longer than expected? It would be useful to know your plans as Bishop is doing his annual review of personnel. You have in mind considerable repair and decoration at St Henry's - tell the Finance Board of your proposals (costs, etc.).

Part of Walsingham Shrine

Writing as Chairman of the Executive Committee, having read the report form Tony Snelling of Dunlop Heywood. The Shrine should operate within its means and not get into a position of indebtedness to the Diocese in the foreseeable future. This proposal would cost at least £300,000m, which would have to be borrowed and paid for. He recalls saying that funds should be built up for maintenance and hopes his position is clear and that he carries the Administrator and the Shrine Executive with him.

Claude Fisher had mentioned other properties but they are no ours. We only have 389 High Street. Bill for repairs and paintings to the Whit e House in Poringland - have no money perhaps Fr Moorcraft can honour the bill?
On a personal note, he comments that Fr Moorcraft looked tired at Clapham - with current shocks on the Stock Market it must be hard to sleep at night!

Bishop say Fr Gerry Langley must have a housekeeper - but the house is very cold with no central heating. Bishop has said that Fr Langley is appointed to Blakeney until he can no longer manage. Real issue is Diocesan attitude to the house; without central heating it will be hard of Fr Langley and in due course make it difficult to attract another priest. Possibly £2,000 investment required - parish might fund this if they thought there is an intention to keep a resident priest at Blakeney? Asks Fr Wilson to think about it and get back soon.

Asking for the whereabouts of the deed for the church (Our Lady of Perpetual Succour) and cemetery at Gillingham. Given to understand that the Bishop of Northampton and the Abbot of Downside were owners or Trustees. Mentions two letters held on file [see related descriptions]. Can Mr. Todhunter see the Bishop at Poringland on 18 August?

Valuable & vigorous time on a programme which at first seemed daunting but was fully vindicated. Bishop did visit the whole of the parish. Very much liked what he encountered and thanked Fr Brown and Sister Alies for their time & energy. Attleborough has no immediate answer; building there is still thought of, but the Bishop favours the Methodist Church as a good venue. Suggests Fr Brown should programme in some painting. The hall may still provide adequate service but for how long? Wymondham is a happy and well organised parish.
