Thanks for the full account of things at Billing. Will make arrangements with Fr Cary-Elwes to be there on June 21. Captain & Mrs Throckmorton lost their little boy "Dickie" after an operation. He was 8 and a half. Funeral at St Benet's tomorrow.

Writing from Cook's Hill Mundesley. Expects to be returning to Beccles next moth. Feeling well and strong. Has enjoyed his stay - meeting many interesting people from nearly every profession.

Reminding the Bishop about the faculties which are with him for renewing. Also, suggesting that he may continue with the work ("you know what I mean") [not clarified] already engaged with. Reminding the Bishop that he is his obedient servant willing to go and do whatever is requested.

Has been to see Fr Vermeulen - signs are not good, he is in a bad way. Fr Banham is supplying at Gillingham Hall and will continue to do so unless he hears otherwise. "Silence gives consent (sometimes.)" he can get his dressing [for an open wound] done every day.

Report is good - sending it on [not present]. Beccles is full of illness, severe and very infectious. Fr Campbell back from holiday.

No surprise that he should be relieved of Billing. Pleased that Fr Sammons is taking over - Mrs Wickham, the housekeeper will go to Fr Sammons. Hopes the Bishop is getting over his own operation.

Returning to Billing on 10th. Sister and brother-in-law to stay with him for a few days and she can change the dressing. New housekeeper recommended to him.

Could not get to Going to Mundesley as mother and sister have Scarlet Fever - Beccles is full of it and Glandular fever which in many cases has been fatal!!! Same last year. Will get to Mundesley as soon as he can and send the report on. Fr Mason has been given the Bishop's message.

X-ray was satisfactory but the dressing is still necessary. Fr Campbell supply let him down; wishes to go to Ireland to see his brother (an old Jesuit priest). Permission to supply for him? After which he hopes to get back to Billing.

Being caught between the Bishop and the Abbot, Fr Banham appeals to Canon Tonks to sort out the money which is promised. For the £41.3.11 he has said 165 Masses - as required by the Banham Fund - there is more to come.
