Now at St Begh's, Whitehaven (a parish of 5000 poor Irish). All the papers relating to the Chapelow Such[?] case were given to Mgr Freeland. Now knows of a brother of Henry Such born six year later and not baptised at any neighbouring churches.
Manuscript annotation: "Answered. 1. Know Fr [Sebastian] Cave very well. 2.. Have heard nothing further re Chapelow Such from Martin. 3. You need not [?] open for Austin Snowden. I have him as a [?]. All that need now be met is his [?] money books & present money. This wd. be met by his family. Am [?] [?] £20 on his account for [?]

Willing to be extraordinary for the Woodbridge community. 70 minutes by train from here. Will find out if Fr Helsham has faculties in his own diocese - he need not hear confessions; Fr Chadwick will be here too - both having a week at home and nominally supplying here.

Fr Slack, ordained yesterday, is now at Beccles and hence Fr Vermuelen wishes to take leave. Would the bishop grant faculties for Fr Slack whilst here? Mentions woman who has promise to return to communion when Fr Slack becomes a priest.

Asks the Bishop to sanction the fulfilment of an obligation to say masses for Mr Banham, 30 at Downside and 23 at Beccles, following the request of Mrs Banham to have them said as soon as possible. The Abbot of Downside has questioned the validity of anticipation for an obligation.

Petition enclosed [not present] for the reception of a woman who will be ready to be received at the end of July. Bishop's view requested on whether she is baptised as "Her mother says she was baptised by the parson making the sign of the cross on her forehead with a wet finger."
