Wearing & HastingsSite Plan for corner of Seaward Avenue and Aldeburgh Road.
Wearing & HastingsLeiston cum Sizewell UDC's alternative site on offer as direct exchange for existing site held by Catholic Church. Report addresses: District, Encumbrances, Adjoining owners, Boundaries, Planning, Ground, Services, Site layout, Recommendations. Wearing & Hastings recommend the site to the Bishop for acceptance as there are benefits, not least it is larger and hence cost effective in exchange.
Wearing & HastingsAldeburgh Church: Have written to Fr Jolly about the options for the Tower. Note that the original architect for the tower was said by Fr Jolly not to be in business, but this is not the case. Hence there is a problem of professional etiquette and they are happy to write to Mr Reid if required to do so.
Witton Church: Noted comments on design; preliminary sketches for Board meeting on 30th [November 1954].
Covering letter for a number of drawings and letter - Bishop had accepted the approach at a discussion in Shefford yesterday (15-7-1963).
Wearing & HastingsReport, site drawings and Fr Hillier letter enclosed [not present]. Council have offered a third or fourth site as an alternative to King George's Avenue in their effort to improve the housing development behind. This latest offering is the best so far; suggest Diocese accept it.
Wearing & HastingsBishop's suggestion to move the church to the south is raised wit Council's solicitors. Suggest meeting on site when the Bishop visits in March, to discuss layout before work starts on plans.
Manuscript annotation "28 March [visit date?]"
second part of letter: new church may be built at Earl's Barton - for guidance church at Roade designed for 128 people for £4650 (includes paving and small front wall).
Refers to Fr Bull's letter of 29th. Agree not to take action in the gallery - quite safe. Watch for further cracks.
Wearing & HastingsAsks for location of the cracks identified in the tower's plaster. Will refer to drawings and then visit.
Wearing & HastingsFollowing receipt of Fr Bull's letter of 18th they have written to Panelec insisting they visit and explain the heating system. Need to ensure the system is running during the off-peak electric period - set it to 7pm to 7am. Glad to hear the system is not too costly.
Wearing & HastingsMissed speaking to Fr Bull at Halesworth when the Bishop was there. How is the heating working in the new chapel - let us know about that and running costs.
Wearing & HastingsReade's have been in touch regarding the instructions for the electrical floor heating. Reade's confirmed work complete - issued final certificate to Mr (sic) Jolly at Kesgrave who is handling financial side of recent building work.
Wearing & HastingsReades suggest best results from tell-tales will involve stripping back the plaster. Hastings agrees; some extra cost and some mess. Considers cracking to be long since "dead". Cost less than £50.
Wearing & HastingsUnfortunately Mr Hastings is confined to bed with influenza - need to reschedule site meeting for another two or three weeks' time.
