Dean's (Fr Harry Wace) visitation of Wymondham Parish; first page is a personal judgement on the Parish Priest by the Dean and acts as a cover note for the attachments completed by Parish priests: Fr David Jennings and assistant priest Fr George Bennet

Fr Wace returning the plans for the screen within the church. Excellent plans from Scarisbrook - no need to consult Art and Architecture committee. Suggest a notice to announce what is behind the glass doors. Much history tied up in that little space.

Need for a community centre to provide church services for "ourselves, Anglicans and Free Church". Building work to start shortly.Requesting permission to say mass at the temporary community centre to establish right. This would be a boon for Fairstead people who cannot get to St Mary's as it is a long way to London Road with infrequent buses and costly fares.

Fr Wace about the Red Chapel procession being during the week instead of a Sunday. If the Bishop can advise whether he'll be able to attend and then they can continue with plannig the event.
Will see Gerald [Moorcraft?] at the siver jubilee (in a lugubriious mood). Permission to lift excommunication on a woman - provides background detail - [annotation "yes"].Annotation "No!" against a suggestion about baptism.

Inviting "Your Eminence" [Cardinal Hume] to King's Lynn to celebrate the leasing of the Red Chapel to Bishop of Northampton [Grant]. to be the first Cardinal to set foot inside the chapel. Some history about the chapel. Service not finalised; request suggestions for ecumenical dignatories to be invited.

To meet Sauvain soon - plan for school unchanged from some time ago. The Education department needs no application for the 75% grant but Fr Wace will apply for a loan equal to the remaining 25% although do not need all of it. School expansion possible with room for three more classrooms; kitchen currently will cater for 120 but in due course could cater for 210.
Two young teachers leaving - one to get married. The Swaffham nuns interested in joining the primary school staff. Are the Massingham nuns better for this?

Work progressing on St Martha's but still waiting for the paperwork for the loan agreement. Bishop Grant on a visit said they needed to apply for it soon.
"I hope you have chosen us a nice bishop and he in turn will find a modus vivendi with the divorce." [setting up new Diocese of East Anglia?]

Have advised the department of the name change from St Mary's to St Martha's. Now refusing entry due to increase in numbers - average baptismal registration is 42 per year. Should the future be an additional year catering for 11 to 12?
manuscript annotation: "Suggest you do not refuse entry. ask for temporary classroom as at Costessey. Ask for full FE. What does the future hold?" [Fr Brewer]

Requesting a copy of the Bill of Quantities following a discussion with the Architect (Mr Waite) and the headmaster (Mr Cole).
Issues about the likely size of grant. St Mary's may be compulsorily purchased - should this be resisted? The Servite convent future - Rev Mother is very cooperative but unsure of the usefulness of their present work.

Need to call off the loan £2,000 with an option for £1,000 held in reserve (perhaps for the new church site on the new estate). On 21 September Bishop Grant will open the school: mass & blessing in the morning followed by a civic reception in the afternoon. Is this grand enough to warrant Fr Brewer attending? It is "perhaps rather small beer". Invite Lincoln Ralphs [LEA Head of Education] too?

Fr Wace (writing as Chairman of School Managers) to Mr Sauvain at Norfolk LEA about having two playgrounds (one for Infant and one for Primary pupils) when St Martha's grounds restored after the building work. Requesting that the installation of a handbasin for hygiene purposes) be installed in St Mary's.

Referring to the annual catholic pilgrimages to the Red Mount Chapel from 1897. Like to see the chapel restored. Proposes a 50-year lease to Bishop of Northampton to aid restoration. Appendix A - details agreement; Appendix B details work needing doing.
Bishop supports this but he's not yet spoken to his parish committee.

To Mr Death [no organisation identified]. Bed too small, so had to sleep elsewhere. Bigger bed much needed, soonest. Details requirement for carpets for hall, two reception rooms; rest will have to wait until funds available. 2 Mereform Oak chests also ordered.

Knew Mr Sindall from doing work at St Bede's school in Cambridge, where Fr Wace was the priest assisting the ailing Canon Stokes and Canon Diamond. Need some input from Mr Sindall (who has taken over Dye & Co) because nothing is being done on site. Cannot honestly recommend Dye to do the work on another project (extension or the primary school) is they are indifferent to the work at this church.
