Fakenham CWL Section

The CWL Fakenham section had its inaugural meeting in March 1975; the section closure was in December 2014.
The holdings commence with the minutes of the inaugural meeting on 18 March 1975 held at the presbytery with Fr Hugh Capper presiding.
The minutes continue on a regular basis until the AGM on 19 March 2014.
A final letter (undated but possibly December 2014) when a closing statement is made to Fr Tony and members of St Andrews, regarding the need to close the section on 17 December 2014.
The majority of the minutes are single pages except for the AGM held in March of each year when there may be a financial statement plus a treasurer's statement.

Sheringham CWL Section

Work of Sheringham CWL section, from their 1990 report (CWL-09-00-5 pg1):

Three new members have joined the Section making a total of sixteen.

Spiritual Activities

  1. Most members attend at least one weekday Mass, some daily. Some belong to the Rosary Circle, saying the rosary for Vocations and Peace after Mass.
  2. Six members went to the July midweek Retreat at Massingham St. Mary.

Parish Activities

  1. During the year various fund-raising activities were organised (see Treasurer's Report).
  2. Coffee after the 10 8.3. Mass on Sundays, organised by our Chairman, is much appreciated by holiday-makers as well as by parishioners and has raised money for various charities.
  3. Members helped to organise a Parish Barbecue and a Harvest Supper.
  4. Members helped with the “breakfast" after First Holy Communion.
  5. Two members are catechists for the local Catholic children, one going to Beeston Hall School to take a weekly Religious Education class.
  6. Members laundered and repaired altar linen.
  7. Members visited the sick and housebound.

Welfare Proiects

  1. The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children: the White Flower Appeal was organised, £143 being raised, as well as £100 being sent during the year.
  2. Age Concern: Some members are on the rota to help with weekly lunches.
  3. Catholic Needlework Guild: Members belong to this.
  4. Children's Camp at Holt: Members helped at this.

Ecumenical Activities

  1. Women's World Day of Prayer.
  2. Austerity Lunches at the Friends' Meeting House for Christian Aid.
  3. Attended Rallies.
  4. Joined local ecumenical groups for Lenten study.
  5. A member is St. Joseph's representative on the Sheringham Council of Churches.
  6. Some members have joined the Cromer Sheringham Prison Christian Fellowship

Other Activities
Members wrote to the BBC and ITV in connection with the Media Awareness campaign, also to our MP Ralph Howell regarding the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill before Parliament.

Woodbridge CWL Section

"At the end of May [1948] steps were taken to form a branch of the CWL. Twenty ladies attended the inaugural meeting which was addressed by Mrs Rope of the Ipswich branch. The priest at Woodbridge at this time was Father (later Canon) Thomson. When Father Nicholson was at Woodbridge he had founded the @St Thomas Guild' as there were insufficient numbers for CWL branch."
