Writing to Rev R B Higgins, USAF, Catholic Chaplain at RAF Lakenheath
Granting Fr Richmond permission to assist USAF chaplaincy at Scunthorpe [sic] [Sculthorpe] and testifies he is a valid priest.
Pleased Fr Malecki is to replace Fr Richmond at Burnham Market.
Regarding Blakeney (Fr Weaver is in agreement) - Fr Malecki to be Priest-in-Charge; Responsibility to include marriages, funerals, etc; Blakeney remain part of Walsingham/Wells parish but pastoral care transferred to Burnham Market; house at Blakeney to be looked after by the local Catholic committee.
Hope that Georgio can offer Mass there in a week's time.
Clergy deployment in East Anglia a bit opened compared to the Provincial's need for tidiness. Would like Fr Malecki to provide Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation masses at Blakeney; noting he prefers not to take over Blakeney until he knows his commitments to Burnham.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Sorry to lose Fr Richmond; happy to go along with his and the Provincials plans. Thanks him for his valiant service to the people of Burnham Market and Sculthorpe. Looks forward to welcoming Fr Victor [sic] Arthur SDS
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Bishop praises Fr Langley's generosity but Fr Brendan Peters is unlikely to want to go to Blakeney (Bishop did offer it to him before Fr Langley). Similarly Fr Joe Parr (and housekeeper, Betty) will not want to move from his home in Peterborough.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Just back from visiting the missions in Peru.
Very happy that Fr Arthur succeeds Fr Richmond at Burnham Market. Fr Richmond is an excellent priest and it is hard to realise he is no longer young. Fully support his move to Massingham.
Thinking along the same lines as Fr McBride. Encouraged by the Salvatorians' willingness to accept pastoral responsibility for the area served by Fr Hugh Richmond. Wants Fr Richmond to stay on but was waiting for the proximate division of the Diocese to give it attention. Let's meet.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Fr Langley's deteriorating health understandably gives cause for concern. There are no plans yet for Blakeney. It is a mission station and part of Walsingham/Wells parish, it is not a parish in its own right. Pastoral charge of Blakeney upon Fr Langley's death by another priest is not predictable. Bishop hopes the committee will continue to be responsible for the practical "running of the church".
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Thanked parishioner for the letter
Smith, Peter David Gordon Rev LLB JCD (1943-2020)Letter acknowledged
Smith, Peter David Gordon Rev LLB JCD (1943-2020)Acknowledging that the Salvatorians have withdrawn form the Parish but hopes to appoint a good priest in the near future.
Smith, Peter David Gordon Rev LLB JCD (1943-2020)Memo regarding Burnham Market
Bishop's OfficeUndated and unsigned. A critical commentary about Fr Malecki's performance and interaction with parishioners. Comparison with the behaviour and actions of Fr Heley. Possibly this prompted the Bishop's letter.
ParishionerSigning himself as Francis Arthur SDS, he announces that he is now at Burnham Market and Fr Richmond has left on his holidays.
Arthur, Francis Rev SDSFinancial situation needs clarification. On the telephone the Bishop had said that Blakeney is the VG's responsibility.
Note that this arrangement is for 6 months - a breathing space - whilst we consider what is to be done.
Fr Malacki expects to move in on 6 October.
Fr Richmond has been found a chaplaincy with the Dominican Sisters in Bushey.
Fr Georgio Malecki SDS will be available for St Henry's for at least six months form 1st October. Has worked in four parishes, with the last 4 years as an assistant priest in Wealdstone. An excellent priest and it is time for him to gain experience in running a parish. Can you grant the necessary faculties?
Provincial Council meeting on 26th has not produced a "final word" yet. The Renewal Commission in the Province will undertake a pastoral commitment review of the whole Province and make decisions about Burnham Market then. Patience please.
Clark, Hilary Rev SDSFr Richmond is 77. He has been at Burnham Market for three years and is requesting less responsibility. Salvatorians do not have a replacement priest available and give notice that after July/August 1989 they may not be able to supply a priest for Burnham Market.
Clark, Hilary Rev SDSInforming the Bishop that it is time for Fr Richmond to move after 18 years at Burnham Market (17 at USAF Sculthorpe). Last year at a retreat in Massingham Convent he saw the sisters did not have a resident chaplain. He'd like to do this next.
His replacement is Fr Victor [sic] Arthur SDS
Will not disturb the Bishop whilst he is at Ushaw. Fr Seahill left on Monday 22 July; Fr Ikegwuenu is helping currently; a holiday priest is arranged; need help from 18 Sept to 14 Oct. Bishop to arrive at Walsingham on Aug 17 and stay until 20th. Been in contact with Mr Hyes, a local solicitor, regarding a water pipe and a Wells property.
