Writing from 33 Upper Rock Gdns, Brighton: He has followed Bishop's advice & seen best doctor in Brighton who believes he has nothing to worry about in spite of abdominal pain. Fr Clare says pain now decreasing & so will not take up Bishop's kind offer of a move. If he finds later he needs it he will raise it with the Bishop

Fr Phillips is in a nursing home in Norwich and is to be operated on for gall stones, possibly tomorrow. In the meantime Freeland will be attending to the spiritual needs of Wymondham and Dereham for some Sundays. Telling the Bishop for information, not to cause anxiety about the mission which I can look after without much extra burden.

RAF Watton: collections (average £15 per week) , payments, expenses ; mass attendance 50 to 62. Attleborough: collections, expenses.
Fr Chapman liked looking after Watton, but his health is not good and he gets exhausted and would like to be relieved of Watton. Finances declining, a lot of work on house, cottage & hall. New roof needed for church (estimate at £4,050 + 8% VAT).

Chris Toller (of ????) undertook the 5 year review of Wymondham property. Nothing to worry, except to reserve £10,000 for re-roofing the Presbytery in a year or so. They considered future development of the parish in Attleborough, given that the parish has no property there. The old C of E Hall is to come to the market soon, Chris Toller sees this as an opportunity. So Fr Brown is raising it with the Bishop despite his lack of means. Sister Alies is soon to be out of hospital but will not be able to drive and it is thought that having her based in Attleborough would provide someone on the spot would provide support for local people.

Further to the Bishops letter on Attleborough and in the light of Alies' recovery/non-recovery. Methodist Minister wants to explore sharing via the Shared Churches Act. Also, Fr Bredon Peters wants to reschedule Mass to 9 am from 4pm - he won't have to drive in the dark, and, better timing to help build up the congregation. Mgr Wace considers that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages - especially keeping Brendon happy. Methodist minister is happy with the proposal - less heating required.

Setting out the timetable for the Visitation. Not many for Confirmation as Bishop has said 11 is the minimum age. The sick are well distributed and so a sick visit is out of the question. Coming for Hethersett Mass? Fr Chapman is to have a medical examination at the request of his insurers regarding his diabetes and heart condition which may affect his fitness to drive.
            Annotation: "Can't do Hethersett".

Sorry to hear of the Bishop's illness and hence inability to visit the parish at the weekend. Fortunate that Mgr McBride administered Confirmation to those who were away when the Bishop came last month. Poor reports concerning two individuals; regretting futile expenditure of sparse funds but should not fund those who do not have the ability required to be a priest. Archbishop of Liverpool (Dr Whiteside) [died 1921] has said that over 50% failed. Resigning as Extraordinary Confessor to Cromer Nuns. Despite Canon Law requiring the post he has not seen the nuns since last September, they wrote in December to say they were going. Fr Thompson is ill with neuritis in the thigh and hip and in bed from 10 to 25 February. Fr Courtney is on sick list since last September and Fr Provincial has sent Fr William Wanen who arrived yesterday - 0.3 of a man suffering from malaria ("badly hipped") contracted in British Guinea and sent home. Faculties requested.
