Taking into consideration Fr Flynn's health, the doctor's certificate, family worries and belated confession of culpability. However, cannot overlook the failures in duty which had happened before - how many times without detection? You cannot expect your flock to make sacrifices if you do not. You had not acknowledged your intemperance but it is a cause. You are under obedience to discontinue immediately all use of alcoholic stimulants - another omission of Sunday Mass will mean the deprivation of your cure.

Smith, Peter David Gordon Rev LLB JCD (1943-2020)Sisters came 23 July 1903 and for 3 or 4 months had a Dominican or secular priest for all the services. Bishop Riddell then sent Fr Garnett, requesting them to provide £40 per year (plus collection money from the Convent Chapel). Masses were held at the priest's house and when the "little church was opened" services were held their instead. 18 months ago Fr Garnett wanted a rest on Saturdays and masses would be held instead at the Church on a Monday. The writer lists all that they do (including pay the stipend) - there are only 9 parish people. The Bishop is asked to establish a regular service to the Sisters for good order at the Convent.
The Dominican Sisters Convent, HunstantonR S Flynn (Fr Flynn's father) writes to inform the Bishop that his son has Bronchitis following on from Influenza. He might not be able to say mass on Sunday - the doctor hopes that he will. Mr Flynn, Snr. feels his son is too limp and washed out. Fr Page has been asked to help, but it is thought he too may be ill.
Manuscript annotation: "Answered. Too late to find a supply. Better stay in bed rather than risk after effects of "Flu" if Fr Page cannot help him."

For last 3 or 4 weeks Fr Flynn has been at Oxborough and Fr Dnage[?] at Hunstanton. He went to Hunstanton for a wedding but became so ill he could take no part in it. He returned to Oxborough for Sunday but was unable to say Mass, which Fr Ketterer did instead.
Eeles, Charles Rev (1868-1926)Requesting permission to say mass in the sacristy during the Winter months when he considers it necessary. The church can be intensely cold and during the weekdays only one person attends now and then. Fr Flynn considers that each successive winter is making his health worse and he really does not wish to have neuritis again.

Provides an explanation for missing the three masses concerned: 2 when he was too ill; 1 when no-one turned up, the clocks having been changed. Heptonstall, Donald V Rev (-1954)The mass for the repose of the soul of Elizabeth Brown has been said. Visitors are coming - the church is so tiny, where will they hear mass? Wish for a rich man to help build a beautiful church like the one in Wells!
Heptonstall, Donald V Rev (-1954)Suggesting that the sermon preached by Fr Freeland on the church opening in 1904 could be reprinted with the Bishop's 50th Anniversary sermon. High Mass pm 21st at 7.1 pm - perhaps invite the local non-catholic clergy? It would be seen as a good gesture. Did not do so at 50th since had only just arrived and Fr Heptonstall was "at daggers drawn with the local vicar.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Change in status of Hunstanton - have made declarations of faith to Canon Sammons at Lynn. RAF Bircham Newton is to close on 1 January 1963, this will have an impact on the parish finances and congregation and provision of services to the RAF community. Hunstanton is increasing in size so hope a related increase in income offsets the loss of RAF Bircham Newton. have spoken to Mr Hastings about the provision of an organ loft to create more space.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Mr Hasting' final account for indebtedness to the builders:
original contract price - £4983.19.5; with additions/extras - £5259.14.2; final contract total - £5485.5.7
Add Diocesan interest + fees - total is £5,937 which is a debt of £2,263.
Some defects are being attended to; floor heating is very efficient.
Capacity is 180 which was insufficient for August when the average for two masses was 480. Normal Sunday - 70 at 8am and 200 at 11am
Forwarding £5-16-0 for Cathedral funds.
Roof soon to be finished. Considering a new Tabernacle for £25 and a new simple oak table with four supports for the altar - this will suffice until a more permanent can be obtained. In discussion with Mr Hastings about the provision of altar rails which had been ruled out to save cost. Hopes that the new (it will be so after so many changes) is nearing completion and will visit next week. Offers to say masses for the Cathedral Fund - only ten Mass intentions at present.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Apologises for his absence at Chrism Mass. He describes an ill-fated road journey to Norwich left him late and in the wrong mood for concelebrating Mass - so he returned to Hunstanton.
