Bishop sends on renewed faculties. Will visit on 15th June. Hopes Fr Dinley & Fr Riley keeping well "in this curious weather".

A joyous occasion. No hard knocks on Friday which a Parish priest often has to take. Gary did find his way back.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Delighted to nominate Fr Dowling publicly as Dean. The current Dean remains as such until his retirement in the Autumn.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Cover letter for enclosure. "Over to you. Let me have Seago's letter back. One thing! Don't let nuns [?] in matters musical!!!"
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Thanks for the official notification. He had had Fr Reid to explain. Whatever his misgivings to wants to express his gratitude for the OSA's friendship and collaboration. He does question the "reasoning" behind the 3rd paragraph.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)His successor will no doubt be grateful for the small extension. The Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes and the Walsingham Dowry of Mary means that there is a certain movement going on in the first weeks of September. Two men are returning from Rome and one or two available from elsewhere. St Mary's will need two full-time priests at a minimum.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Thanks for the agenda of appointments to be made. Most of all thanks for the pastoral care of Yarmouth over the years. Successor amazed by the "Wind of the Spirit" on May 16 when we celebrated the Day of the Diocese. Happy cura at Woodvale.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Delighted with the celebration of Fr Hyland's 25th Anniversary of his Ordination. Cannot attend as will be in Birkenhead to attend Bishop Gray's installation and staying on for a few days. He will offer Mass on 8th. Will ask Tony Rogers to represent him.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Thanks for the gift towards Cathedral Funds. "Don't apologise. It's real money, and please thank your people for all they have given, pointing out that I am still a beggar, and I have no shame in asking for more."
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Thanked Fr Hyland for an excellent day and for his good works in and around the Church - "and all your schemes have been blessed". Gives advice about making loans - do it through the Diocese to ensure a correct record is made - a letter from his colleague in Birmingham may be enough.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Bishop thanking Fr Hyland and the brethren for an excellent weekend, and for the generous offering. Acle - Fine / ship-shape; Hemsby - working to consensus takes time, do use it as a chapel for Mass, keep the fitments although the pews will have to be replaced by stacking chairs.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Draft letter believed to be from Bishop Leo Parker to the SJ Provincial [Terence Corrigan?].
Having to make a submission on Diocesan properties to the Charity Commission before the end of March to meet the needs of the new Charities Act. No records of what the Society hold. Caister Chapel and cemetery seem to be leasehold and not freehold. Also who are the owners of St Mary's parochial school? Need information from the Society by return. The Diocesan solicitors are Witham, Weld and Co of 11 Ashby Place.
Booked 6 June 1991 for Confirmation. Haggle with James about Hemsby Youth Group visit - let him know what they expect. Wish you well with the Manifold matter.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Responding to the letter of 10th November. Discusses the good news that Fr Reid is training Eucharistic ministers and the need for proper training, recording and that the Bishop reserves commissioning for himself. Recommends a manual with workbook (Manual for Training Eucharistic Ministers by Debbie Jones - written for this Diocese but generally available). Bishop feels deeply that the Ministry of the Blessed Sacrament in not to be trivialised. He appreciates the Augustinian presence in Yarmouth and Clare. DPC was reasonably successful and is beginning to be appropriated [sic] by the Diocese.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Prefer the 2nd Sunday of Advent since the 3rd is normally for his pastoral letter. Hoping the departure would not be for 12 months or after Christmas and in the New Year. Speaking for his successor he would like the departure sharp and abrupt and wants Fr Reid to advise him. His heart is heavy at their going away.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Shattered by FR Reid's wounded face (broken nose, broken glasses) following landing on his face: bicycle written off. Enclosed letters about ideas exchanged on the phone.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Bishop back from Chaplains' Meeting Leicester University. Thoughtful discussion about the Bishop's approach to the chaplains role (and he quoted Fr Reid's 'trinum'). Visitation was great ; enjoyed being with Killian and John. Covered a lot in 24 hours and encountered many parishioners and a boat-load of children.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Confirmation of existing convert. Bishop presumes that the priest receiving her did not follow the inbuilt rite of including Confirmation in the rite of Reception. Not normally delegated to priests. Except for urgency. Too late for tomorrow's Confirmation at St George's, Norwich. Bishop sets considerable store on the public administration of the Sacrament.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Bishop Nott spoke of the eventual successor to the present incumbent of the Anglican Church (the biggest in East Anglia!). Bishop Clark asks Fr Reid to give his opinion on the kind of person he'd like to see in charge. This is vague but shows goodwill ad a desire to be open and ecumenical.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)A frank letter putting Fr Reid right on the appointment of a priest instead of a lay person. If Fr Reid had attended the meeting perhaps he'd have a clearer idea on how the system operates "Talking of presence at the Finance seminars, you are the only absentee who did not feel it 'normal' to give reasons, etc.! I find this ungracious - or am I too hard?".
[typed addendum to the letter - from minutes of an earlier meeting] "Fr Reid said that he would like a full explanation from the Bishop for the reasons for replacing Myles Osborne with a priest... ... the statement issued had seemed a bit thin."
