An Update on Yarmouth Asylum Seekers

Letter from Barbara Cornish (representing CWL R&R of the Norwich and Norfolk Refugee Support Group) to CWL members East Anglia Branch. Communication by refugees is difficult; cash problem is acute; well aware that they are relying on charity and wish to work but are not allowed to.

Bishop to Fr Ahearne: Augustinian at St Mary's Great Yarmouth

Bishop is shocked - the area is deprived with widespread responsibilities and he thought it would be an Augustinian priority. Cannot see how to dissuade what must have been a difficult decision. He will leave a decision to his successor - possibly an announcement in Summer with appointments in September 1995.

Bishop to Fr Curran: Muslim use of New Hospital Chapel

Subject to Bishop Wood's approval he is quite happy to see the chapel used for Muslim worship. Only difficulty if Christian symbols were thereby excluded from the Chapel and sensitive issues around the reservation of the Blessed Sacrament there. ".. it cannot just be a worshipping area - but must be regarded as a Christian Chapel basically for Christian worship."

Bishop to Fr Dinley: Arrival advice; Programme; Mgr Forbes

Bishop encloses the normal advice for his arrival which contains the form of Blessing, etc., which may be useful. Programme fine. Believes Mgr. Forbes to be an old Scots College companion. Has to leave on Monday. Will try to come for Friday from King's Lynn where he will be for the Pilgrimage on Thursday 12th.

Bishop to Fr Graham: Augustinian departure from St Mary's, Yarmouth

His successor will no doubt be grateful for the small extension. The Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes and the Walsingham Dowry of Mary means that there is a certain movement going on in the first weeks of September. Two men are returning from Rome and one or two available from elsewhere. St Mary's will need two full-time priests at a minimum.
