Defective screen letter passed onto Fr Richard Wilson (Finance Office).
Whilst the departure of Andrew Kingcomb is a blow you are showing great courage in filling the gaps left by him. However, the appointment of Eucharistic Ministers is made by the Parish Priest (Fr Nesden) and approved by me - after a period of training. Fr Charles Howarth has his duties in Massingham and his residence there.

              1. Changes to standard letter head - not quite
              2. Many demands in the year hence a gap in replacing Fr Tony Sketch
              3. Muriel Phillips as a member of the Shrine Council - fine
              4. Eucharistic ministers - Sr Eileen easy to re-commission. Cannot recall Peter Whitlock but there is a wider problem in the Diocese about management of Eucharistic minsters - a register must be kept as in recent Ad Clerums

Thanks for the big cheque - this goes into the fund for "...running of the show..", it is not my personal emolument. Paragraph on the "centrality of the priest as THE Eucharistic Minister in collaboration with the bishop." Sorry for the people of Oxmoor but there was no alternative. "You will have found my fur hat" - arrangements for passing it on.

Bishop happy to go to Sawston and commission Special Ministers. He will do so after his visitation to Our Lady of English Martyrs (OLEM) in Cambridge. Each candidate must have adequate catechesis, be in possession of the CTS blue handbook and have a certificate for the Bishop to issue.
Delighted to hear that the parish is geared to Saturday 16th May.

Responding to the letter of 10th November. Discusses the good news that Fr Reid is training Eucharistic ministers and the need for proper training, recording and that the Bishop reserves commissioning for himself. Recommends a manual with workbook (Manual for Training Eucharistic Ministers by Debbie Jones - written for this Diocese but generally available). Bishop feels deeply that the Ministry of the Blessed Sacrament in not to be trivialised. He appreciates the Augustinian presence in Yarmouth and Clare. DPC was reasonably successful and is beginning to be appropriated [sic] by the Diocese.

St Cecilia's Church Committee describe a number of factors which convince them that a resident priest is needed for Dersingham: the departure of Andrew Kingcomb leaves a large gap as he fulfilled many roles - organist, Eucharistic minister, religious instruction for children; Fr Nesden is not well and needs support for the Parish; accommodation is available and can only be occupied by a priest; they believe that Fr Charles Howarth (from the Convent of The Daughters of Jesus, Great Massingham) would be interested in parochial duties.

on the death of Jim Murphy the Bishop had asked Fr Brown to prepare Eucharistic Ministers for the parish. Having spoken to the parish and the Dean this should be done by 7 March 1985. Since the Bishop is unavailable to come and commission them before Easter he has asked Harry Wace to do this important job, with the Bishop's permission.
