            • Mrs Churchill (in Rome with Mr F) - a convert and Catholic correspondent to the Times
            • Mrs Arthur Grundy (Mr F's sister) - very high church and is near the Catholic Church - likely to follow her brother
            • Mrs Vowgood - good friend; husband is a useful country squire who was 3 times Mayor of Godmanchester, is on board of various useful societies.
            • Mrs Towgood - born a Quaker. Interested in Catholic church but not in being a catholic at present.

Asks Bishop's permission on Mrs Todhunter's behalf for:

            1. permission for a Sacristan
            2. Permission to allow the daughter (Mary, 7 in December 1928) to have her First Confession) after Easter (as is required) to allow preparation for 1st Communion to occur about Corpus Chrisiti
            3. permission to allow Holy Week service to be held in Gillingham in the "semi-public chapel". Fr Campbell is in favour.
            4. Mr John Todhunter wishes to arrange a Demonstration for the Emancipation[?] on 23 April- Fr Pillot thinks this inconvenient and better arranged for a diocesan-wide date.

At St Neots the Bishop did not look well - have a couple of days at the [Hunstanton] seaside to restore you. 3 favours: granting of faculties to Rev Stephen Sproule CSSR who is coming to give a course of instruction; dispensation for an old woman regarding Eucharist; one of the Sisters is troubled with operations and needs medicine during the night, or a cup of tea - a dispensation for her too. Quite hard-up and would welcome any Mass Intentions that the Bishop may have.

Pastoral Letter from Bishop Grant on Holy Communion and, whilst only the priest can consecrate the host, delivery by others to those unable to attend the Mass. Pope Paul has just removed the requirement for only a priest to deliver the host. Lay people commissioned by the Bishop can now do this.

Downham Market is an issue on which we must stand - "whatever the personal holiness of Ossie (and God alone is the Judge here), he is corrupting a holy thing - and this is the hidden evil." Unwavering leadership is required. Confront Ossie with the obedience he owes, and, that the Pope has formally specified the circumstances in which the rite may be celebrated.
Tony Sketch should be given Downham market as his charge and say a publicised Mass there.

Thanks for the big cheque - this goes into the fund for "...running of the show..", it is not my personal emolument. Paragraph on the "centrality of the priest as THE Eucharistic Minister in collaboration with the bishop." Sorry for the people of Oxmoor but there was no alternative. "You will have found my fur hat" - arrangements for passing it on.

Last year the question of Special Ministers of Holy Communion arose - but not addressed. In August & September Fr O'Toole was incapacitated with torn ligaments and the need for these ministers became more relevant. Could Bishop come and commission them? Possibly before 1st April because of the special Mass to dedicate all those parishioners engaged in supporting roles in the Church. Would like Communion from the Chalice.
This event will be a stepping stone for Norwich on 16th May.
