            Thanks the bishop for the letter of introduction. Cannot write lengthy histories in business letters. Friends are:

            • Mr Fordham - to be received. He is staying in Rome. His house is in Geneva
            • Mrs Churchill (in Rome with Mr F) - a convert and Catholic correspondent to the Times
            • Mrs Arthur Grundy (Mr F's sister) - very high church and is near the Catholic Church - likely to follow her brother
            • Mrs Vowgood - good friend; husband is a useful country squire who was 3 times Mayor of Godmanchester, is on board of various useful societies.
            • Mrs Towgood - born a Quaker. Interested in Catholic church but not in being a catholic at present.
              Am 81 and cannot rise early, fast and go to church at 8.30am on Sundays. Fr Malone brings Holy Communion regularly.
