              The good Shepherd knows his sheep. The Bishop declares that from 2nd Sunday after Easter ("Bonus Pastor Sunday") he will start a Visitation which will remain open until he declares it closed. "The Bishop will therefore diligently visit the Church, the Presbytery, the Schools, the Cemetery and everything therein contained, and will examine the sacred vessels and furniture, the Altars, tabernacles, and whatever belongs to the worship of God or the administration of the sacraments." Visitation will be announced and confirmations should be arranged for then.
              To the clergy: have ready two sheets of foolscap containing - a return for 1958 of Marriages, Baptisms, Conversions, Easter Communions, Deaths; list of details of mass obligations; List of all documents relating to the Mission; Statement of Mission . School property; Account of all debts and liabilities; Mission 1958 income/expenditure balance sheet; same for Schools; exact inventory of Church, Sacristy, House and Schools.

              The Royal Commission are inquiring into the state of popular education in England. They approached the Catholic Poor Schools Committee and were asked to have Catholic representation in the Commission. This was rejected. The Bishop is advising care and to only allow usual Catholic inspectors into the schools.

              83-86 - Thirteen years in the diocese of Northampton which encompassed the duration of war from 14 August 1914, summarises some highlights. The See of Northampton will fall vacant on 6th July when he takes canonical possesion of the See of Liverpool. A Vicar General will undertake the Administration.

              The notes contain the proposals for the trustees for the Banham £1000 endowment:

              1. The Bishop of Northampton is always a trustee
              2. The Abbot of Downside (or an OSB appointee) is the second for as long as the Beccles remains a Benedictine mission - goes to Northampton Diocese if that ceases
              3. A lay trustee from Beccles congregation in consultation with the Beccles' rector and Bishop of Northampton.
