Negative. Preempting and a declaration of what does not exist. The history in the heading is a mish-mash and confusing. Counterproductive if it raises resentment, misunderstanding and downright opposition. In ecumenical matters utter precision is required. Not go ahead with the idea.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Acknowledges that Fr Birch is disappointed and irritated, and, the correction to his history. However, there are [outlined] sensitivities in ecumenism, which the bishop as a seasoned ecumenist is aware of, but he cannot agreed to "institutionalise this in the way you wished". Need to trust one another and find joy in that.
Bishop has drafted a preliminary paper for the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Conference (who decide on the agenda for the Low Week Conference)
p.s. Would Fr Birch serve on the Liturgical Commission's Music Committee?
Had called on Mr Nicholl but he had just gone out. The Tablet's article had two errors: 1 the cost was £1274.10.0 not £2000; 2. The church would be build whole not in part. You must have known that one plan would be rejected and the other was too costly. Already told you that your claim is unreasonable as both plans were quite unsuitable.
Riddell, Arthur George Rev (1836-1907)Inclined to approve the scheme. The parish is to pay for it so the Diocese will not be called upon to provide the modest £50. Not only weather makes a visit: "For one, thing, when you are not in the depths of hell, or its equivalent, you can make anybody happy!"
Cary-Elwes, Dudley Charles Rev (1868-1932)Grants faculties to: Fr Pearce - for convents in Aldeburgh & Woodbridge; Fr Fabian Dix for Aldeburgh, Leiston and the Convents
Does not know how he will get to Aldeburgh with getting to and from Cromer and Woodbridge - a case for an aeroplane!
Regarding the Coats of Arms [on reredos design] does not know what the Cardinal has to do with it - but put in his arms if you wish!
Thanks for looking after church for Jim Mullett
Until Fr McBrides' letter of 29 December 1994 completely confused with contrary instructions from different sources. Now the roles are clearer. Result of suggestions have produced a well balanced design for a fine window. Have agreed on a meeting with Mgr Stark regarding his suggested alterations. Cannot make changes prior to the meeting on 26 January. Hope your differences can be resolved and the design can go ahead in its new form.
Chapel StudioRevised the design as requested - concedes that the changes required are an improvement. Retained the Madonna and Child in the centre base since the lack of make the design unbalanced and empty. Describes the current appearance. Hopes that the design will be approved at the 28 November meeting.
Chapel StudioOpportunity to create something very special as an inspirational force. Describes the design and colours to be used in his design. Estimate of £18,000 plus VAT
Chapel StudioPage 1: cover letter to agreement to be signed for Slipper Chapel window work. Original quote was in 1994 for £18,000 plus VAT - Mr Fisher charged an additional £500 for design changes; 3% per annum increase applied.

Chapel StudioAccept the decision and will not continue towards a common [RC & Anglican] letter-head. Accepts the Bishop's reasoning but counters in his second paragraph saying he took a lead from the Bishops own words [quoted]. Also," the Slipper Chapel was never considered THE Shrine until Cardinal Bourne declared it so".
Birch, Clive Rev SM LGSMProviding an improved version of the MR symbol which he had roughly drawn at the Shrine Council meeting at the Bishop's request.
Birch, Clive Rev SM LGSMAsking for the Bishop's thoughts on the letter heading - "I am ready to put my head on the block for it". Initially use for ecumenical ventures but would like to use it all of the time.
Birch, Clive Rev SM LGSMThe Bishop approves of the interior design for the church? Architect, Builder and committee all approve. Cost less than £50, and is a step towards the final design. Canon Marshall says the Bishop enjoyed his stay - all depends on the weather and we were fortunate.
Davidson, Charles Madgwick Rev DD BAa conciliatory letter suggesting both working towards the same ends but without letting each other know. Tony Rossi was consulted on the best to do the job, he recommended Mr Fisher - so they'd arrived at more or less the same point.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Mgr Stark's suggestions and involvement depicts his interest, concern and generosity but these interruptions are diverting Mr Fisher away from his design. Discussed the matter with the Bishop and he asks Mgr Stark to stand back whilst the 2nd design will go for decision at the Shrine Council. It is expected that this design will be accepted.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Further comments on the design for the window - inclusion of medallions; effect on light levels; blue arc.
McBride, Edward Rev (1919-2011)Discussed the design with Fr Alan Williams. Ransom crest instead of medallion of Our Lady & Child?
