Bishop would not take a boy for the Church who suffers from an irregularity or is spurious (i.e. born of an adulterous union). Such boys not from good Catholic home and the Holy See would not dispense or allow ordination. No where for him. Fr Flanagan's things - let him know where you are depositing them and he may move them. Bishop does not "approve of Fr Dunleavy supplying in this (underlined) Diocese.". Bishop will confirm in Wisbech on 24 June.

Fr O'Toole informing the Bishop that the site at Shelford is agreed for sale at £20,000. However, Miss Margaret Magoris (only native of Shelford belonging to the parish) gave £1,000 for the church in Shelford. Whilst Fr O'Toole acknowledges that the sale fee will go to the parish, some parishioners believe that it will go to the Diocese and Miss Magoris money has "been pocketed by the Diocese!" He will correct this misinformation, but, suggests to the Bishop that perhaps they aught to reimburse Miss Magoris. The parish committee have discussed this.
Enclosed is a photograph of the Bishop with the children confirmed.
Bishop has asked Peter Wilson to deal with the matter of reimbursing £1,000 to Miss Magoris. Suggests that the Parish might contribute more to the St John's fund. Thanks for the picture - "it was a good occasion."

O'Toole, Laurence RevAsking Bishop for a date for Confirmation in July. Suggesting Tuesday if Bishop is unable to come on a Sunday. 3 children making their 1st Communion tomorrow, so he will have them quite ready by July. Some from Ramsey too. Keeping fairly well.
Bishop annotation: "Informed Tuesday, June 7th".
Setting out the timetable for the Visitation. Not many for Confirmation as Bishop has said 11 is the minimum age. The sick are well distributed and so a sick visit is out of the question. Coming for Hethersett Mass? Fr Chapman is to have a medical examination at the request of his insurers regarding his diabetes and heart condition which may affect his fitness to drive.
Annotation: "Can't do Hethersett".
Back from Australia at the beginning of the week. Happy with the programme. Be there for 9.30 am Mass and preach at the others. Visitation of the sick could be done on Sunday or he could come over again on Monday afternoon. In the evening he has to be in Lynn for a Penitential Service.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Sorry to hear of the Bishop's illness and hence inability to visit the parish at the weekend. Fortunate that Mgr McBride administered Confirmation to those who were away when the Bishop came last month. Suggest re-arranging the Visitation to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of the opening of the present Wymondham Church?
Brown, Peter RevIn answer to Bishop's enquiry, reports he is feeling v much better although from time to time he feels effects of operation. He has not used dispensation. Would Bishop come to March in Spring to administer Confirmation?
Bishop annotation: "Yes some time in Spring date to be fixed later."
Fr Dinley expects to have 100 confirmandi on Sunday 3 July - will the Bishop make the visitation before 11 am Mass, address the congregation, meet people in the Sacristy?
Dinley, Patrick Rev SJFr Dinley has 140 candidates for confirmation but only two sponsors. He quotes Canon 794 saying that the sponsor should not stand for more than two. If the Bishop is satisfied there is no need to reply.
Manuscript annotation: "Ans: We cannot follow this Canon - one man is sufficient for males & one woman for females. June 28/27."
Fr Dinley acknowledges June 15 for Confirmation. All well with parish and Convent.
Manuscript annotation: "Booked June 15/30."

The church is being completely repainted by the men now.
Thompson, David H Rev SJ ( -1926)Bishop's secretary writes on behalf of the Bishop: Fr Stratton is Extraordinary Confessor for Bletchley's Thornton College nuns; the Mother Superior has asked for a different priest as Fr Stratton has been unable to attend. Is he willing to relinquish this office? Fr Kennedy is helping out at Yarmouth and following a request from the nuns at Beccles for him to give conferences and hear their confessions, the Bishop is confused over what faculties to give, if any. The Bishop believed Fr Kennedy SJ to be an Army Chaplain but asks whether he is correct in his understanding and asks for more information. Also, confirms date of Bishop's visit to Yarmouth for Confirmation - 30 May at 3.30pm.
