Sorry for delay in response - busy preparing for the Ad Limina in Rome visit which starts tomorrow.
Can understand that Dersingham people would want confirmation to be held there. But there are time constraints, etc. - please sort out between Len Matthews and yourself. The Dean will be doing the pre-visitation report with you and Len.

Requesting faculty to administer Sacrament of Confirmation on Miss Jean Teague. She has been accepted for the Visitation Sisters in Walden , Essex, but, before she can enter the convent on 14 January 1998 she must be confirmed. P.S. The pastoral letter was well received and deeply appreciated, many people asked that he write to thank the Bishop for the words of encouragement.

Programme for Visitation on 28 November. Opportunity to have tea with John Major MP. Social arranged to meet the parishioners. Concern about access to catholic education in the locality; also, running a "key catechist" programme at distant venues (nearest being at Thetford, is hard for people with work and family commitments.

Bishop has agreed to attend St Ives for Confirmation on 14 January 1996. Confirmation Mass is to be held at 2.30pm since 11am Mass in their small church would be crowded and uncomfortable. Offers lunch to the Bishop (manuscript annotation: lunch circled and "Yes Noon"). Fr Kerby has to be at Swavesey for a 4.30pm Mass. Mentions 30 children for Confirmation - under instruction since September, not all attend regularly, parents are good practising Catholics.

Ad clerum states Confirmation now only for 14+ age group. But some in the parish are ready for 12+ and waiting for it. Mothers show signs of disquiet. Fr Kerby understands that at the last Ministry of Priests is was said that the bishop would confirm those under this age if in preparation for Confirmation currently. On 24th May would the bishop allow this concession?

Thanks the Bishop for the card marking the 34 years since Fr Kerby's ordination. All well during Holy Week & Easter - Sunday Masses particularly full - a good core of people who have the interests of the parish very much at heart. Thanks to the ladies, the Church looked splendid on Easter morning with a great amount of flower arrangements. Apologises for not providing warm water, soap and a towel - will do better next time - in October.

Eleven children in Saturday morning class at St Ives. Regularly attending (more or less) for the past 5 to 6 years. Last year's lessons they were taught about Confirmation as a general preparation. Disquiet used to describe the bristling mothers do if their children's interests are affected. If bishop decides to go for 14+ then numbers may decline during the year.
