Mr Holmes decision to remove his boy from the Catholic school goes contrary to the Laws of the Catholic Church. Such an act cannot be done without the Bishop's permission. So the matter is not closed as it will remain open until Judgement Day at which time he will have to account for his act. Fr Eeles will do his duty by Raymond.

Canon Law 2335 no longer automatically bars a Catholic from masonic groups unless that group is known to be hostile to the Church, in which case the Catholic is excommunicated. Bishops of England and Wales clarify a Catholics' standing with Freemasonry membership, anticipating changes to Canon Law. The catholic wishing to join a masonic group should contact his Bishop.
Priest, religious and members of Secular institutions are still forbidden to accept membership of the Masonic Order or similar organisation.

Massive incoming post causes delay. Can debate the central point of the letter: the inadequacy of the New Order Mass compared to the Tridentine Mass. Vatican II debated extensively and profoundly and from there was promulgated the "Constitution of the Sacred Piturgy" in 1963 from which came the April 1969 Apostolic letter of Pope Paul. Fr Baker has known of the1970 Hierarchy directive and has deliberately put his Bishop in an impossible position but is following Canon Law; he could have acted summarily.

Fr D Morgan (Bishop's Secretary) provides a copy of the letter from Bishop Grant to Fr Baker, to be hand delivered by Fr Hammond. The Bishop had hoped that time would heal (the Code does not provide for a time limit to Fr Baker to reply). However, anxious by the activities of Fr Peter Morgan and the pastoral situation seemed to offer a way out without a rumpus.

Part of Northampton Diocesan Travelling Mission - Fr McCormick

Good news that the eye surgery date is fixed for the Bishop.
Item 3 in the Ad Clerum 7/75 - Travelling Mission (TM) - an example of why there was cynicism in the Deanery meeting, decisions are made without consultation. The small committee to discuss this matter was to have its first meeting on 18 November. The next paragraph discusses the value of the TM for small parishes in the time of a priest shortage.
The blunt statement in the Ad Clerum about the TM makes it more difficult to take future consultation seriously.
Second matter is about the doxology of the Eucharistic Prayers - how can one stop the congregation from spontaneously joining in, as they have been doing so for many years? More the spirit of the law than the letter of the law.
Off to USA for his annual holiday but hopes the Bishop won't take a rigid line on the second matter and put priests in a very embarrassing sitiuation with their congregations.

Fr Baker's ministry is harmful being direct and open disobedience of the Holy See. A review of the documents sent by Fr Baker were considered by the Synodal Examiner and the Pro-Synodal Examiner as not a sufficient answer and his ministry was harmful. Fr Baker had refused to resign and hence the Bishop is removing him from his office as Parish Priest at Downham Market. He has to hand over to Father Sketch.

Obedience to the Holy Father means accepting the changes away from the Tridentine Mass. Expects support for Fr Sketch. Notes of explanation included.

Deacon Matthews has permission to preside at a Eucharistic Service, which is not a Mass - no deacon can say Mass, indeed the Bishop has no authority in Canon Law to allow it.
Fr Dobson is a member of the Holy Ghost Fathers and is on loan to the Diocese.
