75th Anniversary of the opening of the parish and 100th anniversary of the parish. Fr p Duffy (sic) [Duff] came to live here in February 1876. Inviting the bishop to be a celebrant at the mass. Church was built by the generous Mr C Temple Layton. Large hole under 12th station of the cross is planned to be filled with a commemorative plaque.

Be glad to see the Bishop on Friday 4th and will reschedule Mass to 12.30pm

Mrs Gavin writes on behalf of the Silver Jubilee committee regarding Fr Grace's 25th anniversary of his ordination occurring on 27 May and the parish celebration on 20 May. The Bishop is invited to attend.

Holiday good - parents well. Retreat at Ratcliffe and 13th anniversary of ordination on 15th - asks bishop to pray for him.

Mrs Bolt (secretary of Civic Society, and, committee member for Preservation Trust) writing to Fr Shryane regarding a talk to be given on 27 July and an exhibition being held at Red mount Chapel. Encloses a copy of the Society's Summer 1985 newsletter and apologises for not exercising her role as editor more thoroughly. Explains relationship with Fr Hammond and that she is juggling a number of organisations all of which want action about the Chapel.

Encyclical letter on the completion of the Pope's 25th year as Pontiff. He bestows all Catholic Bishops with the faculty to bestow a Papal Benediction - conditions set out. Bishop Amherst appoints 6 August as the day when the Plenary Indulgence may be gained.

Thanking the bishop for card sent on his 11th anniversary [of ordination into Catholic Church]. Both Bishop Clark and Bishop Smith have been very patient and sympathetic to ex-Anglicans. Suggests send in a brochure to every boy and girl in the diocese on their 14th birthday. This would promote the idea of a religious life. Cites his own example of being in the Navy and not thinking of such a life until the chaplain asked him, dismissed it out of hand, but a few years later left the Navy and entered an Anglican seminary.
