Thanks the Bishop for his card and good wishes on Fr Kerby's 36th Ordination Anniversary.
A very impressive service in the Cathedral last night.; unfortunately Fr Kerby was too late to join the priests on the sanctuary - must start out earlier next year. Best wishes for Easter.

Fr Nesden nominating 3 parishioners for the Bene Merenti Medal: Mrs Dorothy Barton (St Ives) , Mr Edward Dorney (St Ives), Mr Bernard Rodgers (Papworth). All have given loyal service for at least 25 years and still doing so.
This is the 75th Anniversary of the opening of this church and presumably the foundation of the parish but there do not appear to be any records. Perhaps the Bishop would take this into account on his visitation on weekend of 24th April. Fr Nesden would like a concelebrated Mass with Deanery clergy and the Mayor attending.

requesting a dispensation to marry Caplan Valon, an officer of the Tank Corps, to Agnes Macdonald, an Australian. Fr Pace has moved on to Wardens Castle - no replacement yet. The year is the 75th anniversary of the Church (and that of the restoration of the Hierarchy). He would like to have a mission and perhaps the Bishop could rededicate the church and attend a confirmation later in the year, Autumn. Tomorrow he is giving a Triduum at Holy Rood Convent, 1 Gloucester Road, Regent's Park, London. Relates a story about a question set in a General Knowledge test: "What do the letters SJ after a name indicate? Only one answer attempted and that was 'Steeple Jack!'". A post script refers to Fr John H Pollen who has been staying with him and who has dementia. He has "quite gone" and is placed in a home - a loss to the English Martyrs Cause.
Thompson, David H Rev SJ ( -1926)Fr Hyland celebrates his 25th Anniversary of his Ordination. Formal celebrations on Wednesday 8 October with mass at 7.30pm followed by a reception. Invites Bishop to attend.
Hyland, John G Rev OSADelighted with the celebration of Fr Hyland's 25th Anniversary of his Ordination. Cannot attend as will be in Birkenhead to attend Bishop Gray's installation and staying on for a few days. He will offer Mass on 8th. Will ask Tony Rogers to represent him.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)Fr Thompson is to be absent until 9th September running 4 retreats in London - a strain but "needs must when the rate collector drives". Fr Hughes is going to Gorleston, hope his health holds up. Ask the Bishop to come for Confirmation in the Autumn and they are also celebrating 75th anniversary of the opening of the church on 20 September. The church is being completely repainted by the men now.

"Four decades as a priest and still going strong...". 40th anniversary of his ordination. Reception held in the Anglican hall of St Peter and St Paul where Fr Hammond was presented with a cheque for £1100.

UnknownSuggesting that the sermon preached by Fr Freeland on the church opening in 1904 could be reprinted with the Bishop's 50th Anniversary sermon. High Mass pm 21st at 7.1 pm - perhaps invite the local non-catholic clergy? It would be seen as a good gesture. Did not do so at 50th since had only just arrived and Fr Heptonstall was "at daggers drawn with the local vicar.

Accompanying document: "2nd Norwich Brownie Pack has presented eight "Peace" rose bushes to the St John's Roman Catholic Cathedral, Norwich to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the Brownie Guides.
The Pack collected the money from the sale of sweets at their weekly meetings and persuaded two fathers to dig the trefoil-shaped flower bed at the cathedral.
A service of dedication and blessing was conducted by Fr Kevin Fox, and held after the Rememberance Day Church Parade in which all Scout and Guide units from the cathedral took part."
Thanks the Bishop for the card marking the 34 years since Fr Kerby's ordination. All well during Holy Week & Easter - Sunday Masses particularly full - a good core of people who have the interests of the parish very much at heart. Thanks to the ladies, the Church looked splendid on Easter morning with a great amount of flower arrangements. Apologises for not providing warm water, soap and a towel - will do better next time - in October.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)30 November 1989 is 100 years since the first mass at Beccles since the reformation. Abbot happy if the Bishop wishes to preside.
Watkin, Aelred Rev MA FSA FRSA FRHistS (1918-1997)Reminder for 30 November 1989 being 100 years since the first mass at Beccles since the reformation. Perhaps a few kind words about the work of Downside in the parish?
Feeling better and now able to start visiting again. Been re-reading Tyrrell's autobiography and life - what a tragedy, his inability to distinguish faith from belief.
Date in the diary. Glad to know Fr Watkin being in good health. Tyrrell must be required reading for Benedictines this Advent. Share sentiments about the Anti-Modernist Oath. It is really unintelligible; so no lack of integrity in saying it.
Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)The Abbot will be here on 30 November. All the priests in the Deanery have been invited. Enclosed is a short history of Beccles.
