Fr Richmond is having his 40th Ordination celebrations at Burnham Market on 19 March - concelebrated Mass followed by buffet at Hoste Arms across The Green. Bishop is invited (but it is noted that he is in Walsingham on that day).
Arthur, Francis Rev SDSCongratulates Bishop Clark on his appointment.
75th Anniversary of the opening of the parish and 100th anniversary of the parish. Fr p Duffy (sic) [Duff] came to live here in February 1876. Inviting the bishop to be a celebrant at the mass. Church was built by the generous Mr C Temple Layton. Large hole under 12th station of the cross is planned to be filled with a commemorative plaque.
Be glad to see the Bishop on Friday 4th and will reschedule Mass to 12.30pm
Grace, George E L Rev (-1998)Fr Heath advising Bishop that next year is the 175th Anniversary of the APF [Association for the Propagation of the Faith]. He is asked to lead a Mass at the Cathedral on 20 October 1997. Other diocesan directors are making similar requests to their respective Bishops. Complain about the Key's coverage which did not mention the support given by schools - £300 this year, £2000 since the Bishop's letter.
Heath, Bernard R Rev (-2013)Thanking the bishop for card sent on his 11th anniversary [of ordination into Catholic Church]. Both Bishop Clark and Bishop Smith have been very patient and sympathetic to ex-Anglicans. Suggests send in a brochure to every boy and girl in the diocese on their 14th birthday. This would promote the idea of a religious life. Cites his own example of being in the Navy and not thinking of such a life until the chaplain asked him, dismissed it out of hand, but a few years later left the Navy and entered an Anglican seminary.
Heley, John RevFr Hyland celebrates his 25th Anniversary of his Ordination. Formal celebrations on Wednesday 8 October with mass at 7.30pm followed by a reception. Invites Bishop to attend.
Hyland, John G Rev OSASuggesting that the sermon preached by Fr Freeland on the church opening in 1904 could be reprinted with the Bishop's 50th Anniversary sermon. High Mass pm 21st at 7.1 pm - perhaps invite the local non-catholic clergy? It would be seen as a good gesture. Did not do so at 50th since had only just arrived and Fr Heptonstall was "at daggers drawn with the local vicar.
Ketterer, John Joseph Rev SJ (-1973)Thanks the Bishop for the card marking the 34 years since Fr Kerby's ordination. All well during Holy Week & Easter - Sunday Masses particularly full - a good core of people who have the interests of the parish very much at heart. Thanks to the ladies, the Church looked splendid on Easter morning with a great amount of flower arrangements. Apologises for not providing warm water, soap and a towel - will do better next time - in October.
Kerby, Raymond Rev (?-2009)Thanks the Bishop for his card and good wishes on Fr Kerby's 36th Ordination Anniversary.
A very impressive service in the Cathedral last night.; unfortunately Fr Kerby was too late to join the priests on the sanctuary - must start out earlier next year. Best wishes for Easter.
Fr Maddison states that the Bishop's diary for next year is opening in September and will advise Fr Heath if the Bishop can attend later in the year. Complaints about the KEY should be made to Patrick Byrne by letter at the White House.
Maddison, Paul RevHoliday good - parents well. Retreat at Ratcliffe and 13th anniversary of ordination on 15th - asks bishop to pray for him.
manuscript annotation: "Ans. Will remember you for in Mass on 15th. Hope you had a good retreat. Aug 14/27""
Fr Nesden nominating 3 parishioners for the Bene Merenti Medal: Mrs Dorothy Barton (St Ives) , Mr Edward Dorney (St Ives), Mr Bernard Rodgers (Papworth). All have given loyal service for at least 25 years and still doing so.
This is the 75th Anniversary of the opening of this church and presumably the foundation of the parish but there do not appear to be any records. Perhaps the Bishop would take this into account on his visitation on weekend of 24th April. Fr Nesden would like a concelebrated Mass with Deanery clergy and the Mayor attending.
On 16 December 2018 Fr Pat Clearly marked 40 years since his ordination. He was also installed as Parish priest at Our Lady and St Thomas of Canterbury in Wymondham.
The Catholic Universe (1860-2021)"Congratulations! You have survived your first year as Bishop of East Anglia."
Suggestion made after Council of Priest that a group of young adults visit the White House, perhaps in the evening for a get-together, etc.
requesting a dispensation to marry Caplan Valon, an officer of the Tank Corps, to Agnes Macdonald, an Australian. Fr Pace has moved on to Wardens Castle - no replacement yet. The year is the 75th anniversary of the Church (and that of the restoration of the Hierarchy). He would like to have a mission and perhaps the Bishop could rededicate the church and attend a confirmation later in the year, Autumn. Tomorrow he is giving a Triduum at Holy Rood Convent, 1 Gloucester Road, Regent's Park, London. Relates a story about a question set in a General Knowledge test: "What do the letters SJ after a name indicate? Only one answer attempted and that was 'Steeple Jack!'". A post script refers to Fr John H Pollen who has been staying with him and who has dementia. He has "quite gone" and is placed in a home - a loss to the English Martyrs Cause.
Thompson, David H Rev SJ ( -1926)Fr Thompson is to be absent until 9th September running 4 retreats in London - a strain but "needs must when the rate collector drives". Fr Hughes is going to Gorleston, hope his health holds up. Ask the Bishop to come for Confirmation in the Autumn and they are also celebrating 75th anniversary of the opening of the church on 20 September. The church is being completely repainted by the men now.
