Rev EW Allworthy writes that he cannot accept an invitaion to the event organised by the Roman Church as there is little ecumenism being displayed as the Roman Chgurch is attempting a takeover. Some quotes from the Lord's Prayer. As a consientious son of the Church of England he is regarded by the Roman Churhc as an heretic to be put to death.

Rev EW Allworthy thanks Fr Wace for an amusing and friendly letter - "I don't take too seriously some of your statements as I understand you are excused from telling the truth to a heretic". He is not referring to the middle ages but to 1968. The Roman Church has laws in abeyance, not rescinded, that require heretics to be put to death. It may be surprising but he has good friends in the Roman Church. It makes no sense to be united with the Church of Rome as it would cause disunity with his own congregation.

Vicar of St Nicholas, Kings' Lynn, "Geoffrey", writes that he and his Parochial Church Council unanimously offer the church for Fr Hammond to use for his autumn Mission at no fee. ".. by that time there will be amplification in S Nicholas; so that those who preach the Mission will not have to shout damnation and judgement to he first three rows and be lost beyond them."
manuscript note [Fr Hammond]: apologising for not writing immediately to thank him and his people for their kind offer.

"It is nearly two years now since the Annual General Meeting for Burnham Sutton Church put forward a proposal for the future use of this Church. The substance of this proposal was explained in Parish letter No 76, but in the view of the fact that we now have copies of the Church Commissioners' Draft Scheme on the Notice Boards in the Porch at Sutton, Westgate & Norton Churches (tey [sic] will be there until March 6th) I propose to explain the whole thing again, and how it will affect these parishes."
The remainder of the letter provides the history, rationale and actions taken regarding the potentially redundant Church and giving it to the Roman Catholics.

Asked by the Executive Committee of the Liturgical Commission to prepare a paper on the request to incorporate a feast in honour of Our Lady of Walsingham into the national calendar. Not having any material he asks for material to help in drawing up such a paper - especially any evidence of Anglican devotion and relevance to the feast of Our Lady of Ransom.

Chatty letter about the misery of wet weather at this time of the year. Thought the pastoral letter too long. Recalls being a child in the second World War (fear at nights, doodlebugs, land mines, incendiary bombs). Describes the help of Canon William Sayers when "Star of the Sea" had its problems. Not yet been able to meet the Celanese priest who is writing a book at Burnham Market.

Proposes a pilgrimage to Walsingham and is asking permission for Benediction at the Slipper Chapel. Fr Gray (Fakeham) suggests this has to be sought from the Bishop.

manuscript annotation 1: "Answered on back Jan 20/29"
manuscript annotation 2: "Ansd. Very sorry for delay. As regards proposed pilgrimage. Some 30 years ago the Shrine of Our L. of W. was opened with blessing of Pope Leo XIII at King's Lynn, to take the place, for practical purposes, of an old Walsingham. The H. Father himself selected and blessed the statue of O. L. of W. It is now in this minitaure replica of the H. House of Lourdes in the Church of K.L. There is a pilgrimage every year conducted by the Guild of O. L. of Ransom. on [?] Thursday in honour of O. L. of W. as recreated at K.L. This one, therefore, is the official pilgrimage to O. L. of W. & I do not wish it otherwise. Of course, I cannot prevent [?] [?] visits to the old ruins which are now in private Prot. hands but they cannot be public or official - the Slipper Chapel is unusable. with blessing "

Miss V Gavin writing from Williamson's Hotel, Hunstanton.Re Walsingham, it is a matter of regret that the Catholics possess nothing which might be used as a shrine or site for a church. Advising the bishop of her discovery that a property, "The Friary", is to be let and is situated amongst the ruins of the friary itself. Walsingham is becoming an Anglican stronghold with the new shrine, a hospice for pilgrims, a repository and a workshop.

Lower Half: Fr Wilson says that with £2,700 on deposit and £1100 in the bank there is sufficient to cover the work recommended by Mr Toller. If not, then the Diocese can help out.

Foundation masses for Canon Eeles (June 6) and John Henry Lewis (Jan 26). £80 collected for the Canon's memorial. Girl take out of the school and placed with a High Anglican School without reference to him. Alternative woudl be to send her to Mrs Risdale's private school (she's a catholic, our organist). Need to get the religious into the school to address issues there - all is well in the school but it lacks "go". Mission a great success; "inclined to swear by a Redemptorist missioner even down here - provided you know who you are getting."
