Fr Back has been in hospital for 3 days with pancreatitis. Description of his condition and stay in hospital. Sees in his diary that he has been out to 40 meals since just before Christmas! Situation report about the Parish: re-heating done; repair programme for presbytery (no longer up for sale); site at Leiston; more children at liturgy; 2 receptions for Eater; assemblies at school; contacting B&Bs and hotels; expects to be chaplain to the Mayor; coach booked for Chrism Mass. Forward look to exchange with priest in London; Verona for a week; first Communions and then Aldeburgh Festival.
Back, Christopher G E Rev (-2014)Fr Davidson is asking for a move to a small place. He is depressed and loathes "this place" and the bad influence of Mr Winckworth (staying with protestants). He feels useless and harmful. A fresh outlook in a small place; offers to guarantee to do no harm in such a place.

Delaney, Vincent RevUpdating the Bishop on his situation. Bad case of shingles nearly over and almost recovered. Housekeeper had to retire due ill health and replacement is unacceptable. Sister helping out for now. However, if the situation does not improve he cannot manage on his own and may retire to Peterborough near his family.
Hammond, Leo Andrew Rev (1913-1999)Fr Jolly is finding it increasingly impossible to continue at Aldeburgh because of his health. Besides diabetes, his nervous "black-outs" need to be diagnosed by a nerve specialist who is currently away. He asks the bishop for an absence of 3 months to get a diagnosis and rest; also, asks the Bishop to arrange short term cover for the parish. He is extremely happy at Aldeburgh and wishes to return to to stay, but, the Bishop may think that the cover should be a permanent arrangement.
Jolly, William T Rev (-1982)Mrs Temple Layton has sent chalice on, formerly of Brampton, a small silver chalice engraved "St Joseph's College, Brampton, 1888" - asks Bp's permisson to keep as a second chalice. A request from a catholic (Mr Goddard of Gt Staughton, Hunts) to purchase some land to build a bungalow for him and his wife - both of poor health and may not last long - hears that he may bequest the land/building back to the diocese. Attended his sister's clothing at Meaux [France]. Then on to Clarmont to visit Madame Betheley (was Rev Mother at Aldeburgh) who is delighted to hear of the progress of the sisters in that parish. Fr M was off-colour but feeling better now.

Fr Thomson thank Bishop for doing the supply at Aldeburgh on 25th September whilst he was in hospital. His poisoned foot is better, but the district nurse visits to dress it. He will take a week off to recuperate. Sends an honorarium [manuscript note: £25] to cover the Bishop's expenses.
Thomson, David C Rev (-1998)Asking permission to have a private retreat at Lowestoft Convent (which he can reach by train) instead of attending the Bishop's in Massingham. He gets tired driving the car long distances and his controlled diet will make catering a nuisance. Things may be more stable in the future.

He writes following a discussion with Fr Hammond being unable to talk about retirement with the Bishop due to the busy timetable - ""where can I go, who will have me?". The letter describes a perceived deterioration in health through episodes of falls, memory lapses, disorientation. Fr Hammond's sister does her best but has other relatives to look after. States that he knows the Bishop will do whatever is possible to help Fr Hammond.
Lanning, JohnCrockerhill, Aldeburgh, the client Mrs Simpson regrets to hear of the Bishop's illness. Her Doctor thinks she should stay in the house herself. But she has made provision in her will that the house is made over to the Church, on certain conditions.

Jackaman & SonsMother Superior, Sr Francis of Assisi details a long set of issues with Fr Flanagan's behaviour towards her and the convent. She describes violent and abusive actions before herself, the sisters and the laity. Despite being ill herself she say she has kept her calm and tried to manage the convent and situation despite the actions of Fr Flanagan. He tried to subvert two nuns who had to be reprimanded and sent away for a while. He has written anonymous letters about her. The remaining nuns do not want to go to services or confession with him. Can the Bishop help?
