Bishop has not signed the Deed of Conveyance - returned for signature, otherwise cannot proceed.

Disposition of deed, etc. is a matter for Fr Delaney and Canon Tonks to sort out. Fiance is nothing to do with Mr Yorke. Fr Delaney bought the 4 plots and the presbytery in his own name. They were conveyed to the Bishop and others; however, the plots were no longer needed once a new site was found. The same process has happened for this site - acquired by Fr Delaney, subsequently to be conveyed to the Bishop and others. Fr Delaney has deposited the deeds with the bank and paid a deposit because he was concerned not to lose the site. Sort it out between you and send on the deeds for the plots to settle with Mr Reade - it being a small matter but it is hindering things.

Received the conveyance document. Enclosed deed relates to Fr Delaney selling surplus plots to Mr Reade . They are not needed as a new plot has been bought for the Church. Arrange for the document to be signed by the Bishop and returned.

Excellent start: rent-free house and gardens; sites for Aldeburgh & Leiston chapels secured. Need to check on conveyance restrictions and re-convey the buildings to Diocesan Trustees (suggested names: Bishop, Fr Delaney, Fr Hugh Parker, Fr Austin O'Sullivan), take your solicitor's advice. Model Trust Deed available. Leiston chapel seems cheap - but need to consider extension in the future, hence make the walls higher to avoid tunnel appearance. For maintenance, use Mission receipts, but in the intervening months Bishop would provide funds through the Poor Mission Fund (Canon Ashmole will send an application form).

How do things stand with reference to deeds in Aldeburgh? Has one to sell four plots to Mr W C Reade. The other for the church site is held in a bank without being signed by any of the trustees (Bishop, Peacock, Parker, Delaney). This should have been done before the transaction went to the Bank. How are we to know what has been purchased if we do not see the documents? We have no title to the property?

Has Fr Delaney instructed Mr Yorke to prepare the deed of purchase for the new plot? Promised to do this last week. Lists names of trustees. "Hoping you are progressing rapidly towards a complete recovery."

Mr Yorke has revealed that the deed for the Church is in Fr Delaney's name and held by the bank. Bishop cannot be asked to sign the deed of sale for the four plots without receiving this deed. Is Fr Delaney going to transfer the deeds as requested? Hope you are making a rapid progress towards complete recovery.

Fr Davidson provides a detailed explanation of what he asked Reade to do and what was done. Reade is of the opinion that he is owed commission which is less than that which a Woodcocks Estate Agent would have charged.

Wants to buy a plot of land, but need the Diocese to advance the money. Looking to the future of Leiston - presently unsatisfactory being out of the way on an unadopted road. No news about another room being built on the side of the presbytery - could put an elderly priest there to help in the exhausting, and unsatisfactory, work running Aldebergh-Leiston parish.

Mr Knowles will buy the land to the South of the Presbytery for £200 - cheque & reply enclosed. He will build a house and leave a 4 foot passage way . No commission due - direct approach. Request leave for the Exposition of Blessed Sacrament on Christ the King.

Cannot form an estimate of income from the visitors during the season, therefore will ask Canon Ashmole for an application form for the Poor Mission fund soon. Costs of furnishing, repairing and decorating the presbytery were high; the nuns only advanced half his last quarter salary; getting the workmen our the house (fourteen of them) was an issue. No problem with putting the chapel on the garden in fact he might be able to get an additional strip of land as a gift. After his return from Paris, Fr Delaney hopes to do great things with building fund and maintenance fund. Would like to get building soon since it is difficult to accommodate the existing congregation without including visitors. Numbers are increasing 3 recantations in both Aldeburgh and Leiston; four ready for full baptism; three babies for baptism.

Mr Young, very entertaining and interested in the project, he has taken measurements and will draw up plans and scheme. Says that £1,000 will not get a lot but he will do his best for Fr Delaney. Mr Dermott may make over a plot of land adjacent to the presbytery - the site would then be 100 ft frontage on Fawcett Road with a depth of 64ft. Reminded the Bishop about petrol and states that he has sold his old motorcycle and bought a new one for £55 , this year's model.

Mrs Temple Layton has sent chalice on, formerly of Brampton, a small silver chalice engraved "St Joseph's College, Brampton, 1888" - asks Bp's permisson to keep as a second chalice. A request from a catholic (Mr Goddard of Gt Staughton, Hunts) to purchase some land to build a bungalow for him and his wife - both of poor health and may not last long - hears that he may bequest the land/building back to the diocese. Attended his sister's clothing at Meaux [France]. Then on to Clarmont to visit Madame Betheley (was Rev Mother at Aldeburgh) who is delighted to hear of the progress of the sisters in that parish. Fr M was off-colour but feeling better now.

Presbytery nearly finished and expects to be in residence by next Monday. Cost was £2750 with Hasting's fee is 10%. £600 in Leiston a/c; with sale of old church he can meet the balance from the Aldeburgh a/c. Sale of the plot of land in Leiston for £560. Argent has matter in hand and deposit paid. New rite going well in the parish.
Cdr P Kerr-Smiley, of Rendham near Saxmundham has given a font. Simple traditional design and looks well at rear of side chapel. Mrs Rawlings has also given a new sanctuary carpet

Account receipt for charges associated with professional conveyancing services for the sale of land by Bishop (and others) to Mr Smith. £4 10 6d - 6d for stamps (value 2d, overwritten 8 April 1925)

Canon Peacock informs them that the Bishop is in the area - he can be asked to sign the Conveyance to Mr Smith. The deed will be forwarded to Fr Parker. Any charges on the land? The vacant land is assumed not to have rates or taxes and Mr Smith will provide the balance of the purchase money. Supporting statement received from Mr Reade for his commission: "I beg to say that I was asked to find a customer for the land and having done so am entitled to usual commission for the same. As nothing had been said about commission I thought it best to mention the matter before deducting the amount but I did not suppose for one moment but that your client would be willing to pay it." Jackaman say that if this is the case then the commission seems fair and reasonable.

Need to have form of consent signed to enable Mr Knowles not to erect a fence where the wall of his house acts as the boundary.

Purchase completed. Wrote on 27th asking about Mr Reade's claim for commission.

Received the signed contract. Mr Reade is enquiring about his 2.5% commission being deducted from the deposit. Was this agreed?
