Fr Jolly has asked Major Rous to advise the Bishop of his intent to support a priest when a mass centre is opened in Framlingham. He and his wife will find accommodation for a visiting priest either at his place or within the parish. A monthly mass at Framlingham will benefit those who cannot get to Aldeburgh or Woodbridge. Some cannot attend mass at all; children's religious education is sadly neglected. He enjoins the Bishop to provide a priest to say mass monthly at the Crown Hotel in Framlingham.
Rous, Peter Major (1914-1997)Fr Jolly is finding it increasingly impossible to continue at Aldeburgh because of his health. Besides diabetes, his nervous "black-outs" need to be diagnosed by a nerve specialist who is currently away. He asks the bishop for an absence of 3 months to get a diagnosis and rest; also, asks the Bishop to arrange short term cover for the parish. He is extremely happy at Aldeburgh and wishes to return to to stay, but, the Bishop may think that the cover should be a permanent arrangement.
Jolly, William T Rev (-1982)Bishop sorry about the continuing problems with the tower. Fr Reffitt will be visiting soon, but the Bishop cannot. In the meantime Fr Bull should keep his letters for the Board meeting.
Parker, Thomas Leo Rev (1887-1975)Fr Bull advises about the controls of the church's heating system and warns against leaving it on overnight - "it eats money". "Don't write too often from Aldeburgh - it makes me too nostalgic. How I wish I were back there."
Bull, Alfred Stephen Rev (-1980)Canon Hunting acknowledges that to be accommodated they need to change the date for the appeal. He tells Fr "Donald" to leave the date as 4th August and they will look after themselves.

Burns Oates Retail Ltd (1835-1969)Cannot come to see Fr Reeman - how are the presbytery alterations coming on? Leiston old church site not yet sold. What prospects as money is needed for Leiston?
Parker, Thomas Leo Rev (1887-1975)Will transfer what is necessary when Fr Reeman says. Apologises for the mess made of Aldeburgh v Leiston, sometimes instructions from Northampton are very obscure. As both are Fr Reeman's he will "cook the books according to your recipe!"
Hunting, William H Rev (-1969)Parishioner's (Mrs Eileen Lilbert) daughter and her fiance have called off the wedding planned for 20 November - not yet ready for this. Hope that Fr Reeman is continuing to make good progress.
ParishionerStanley Smith, Warden, of Guild of Blessed Sacrament, St Pancras, Ipswich wishes to make contacts with other Guilds and asks for details of contacts in Aldeburgh, Framlingham and Leiston. The intention is to organise a County Guild Rally one Sunday in the middle of the year.
Manuscript annotation: "Ansd No Guild".
Undated/unaddressed letter (assumed to be about 1966) in which Fr Bull encloses a petition to the Bishop from "priests who are disconsolate at the loss of the Latin Mass". He asks for support but recognises that Fr Reeman may be "indifferent of a confirmed vernacularist". Priests included are: Alfred Bull, Ildephonsus Flannery OSB, Bryan Houghton, Quentin Johnston OP, Michael Kennedy, John Ketterer, Bertram Sammons, James Sloan, Joseph Sweeney and George Walker.
Bull, Alfred Stephen Rev (-1980)Mr Sitwell states that transporting Fr Reidy [?] to and from East Bergholt is 54 miles and 3 gallons of petrol. He wants petrol expenses as he is not as well off as others who do this as well. Wishes Fr Reeman well on his visit to hospital.
Manuscript annotation: "Ansd. Yes, certainly Leo Smith."
Fr Leo Smith needs to deal with Diocesan financial material, with others' assistance, and return it to the Canon. Anything from the Diocese he can open in Fr Reeman's absence.
Hunting, William H Rev (-1969)Fr Smith as priest-in-charge in Fr Reeman's absence, asks for a renewal of a Deed of Covenant from a parishioner (JW Russell)
Smith Leo Rev SDSFr Smith (now at Gorleston) is requesting the current priest-in-charge [not named] to send on the Synodal rate payment for his 5 weeks at Aldeburgh plus Mass stipends due. Fr Reeman is "out of action".
Smith Leo Rev SDSMr Sitwell sends on the Easter offering cheque from Leiston congregation. He hopes Fr Reeman is feeling better and recovering his health.
Sitwell, OswaldFr Reeman is writing from St Theresa's presbytery in Beaconsfield to Canon Thomson. Thanking him for the £15 cheque. Fr Reeman is a bit hard up now he is on curate's pay having resigned [from Aldeburgh parish]. Not having drawn any salary for several months Fr Reeman thought the Aldeburgh parish could afford something for him. Missing Biretta and Dictionary found in sacristy? Might Leiston and Aldeburgh be making a presentation?

Given to understand that your Lordship will lay the first stone for the Catholic Church in Aldeburgh on 16 July. We thank God and are grateful to you for all the interest you have in the small mission in which we have worked so much. Enclosed is a cheque for £10 and apologies for the small sum, but cannot afford more. Allow me to remind you what was agreed with his Lordship Mgr Keating. 1st - that a small plaque of stone or metal will commemorate the stay of the Ursulines in this place; 2nd - Each year 4 masses will be said for the 4 religious who lay in the vault. You may find these conditions in the papers of the Aldeburgh Mission.
Manuscript annotation: "Answered. Thanks, very much. Do not know whether I can fix the Masses on the Parish [indecipherable] as there is no money to cover this. Will look up the agreement when I find it. (Mentioned it to Archbishop Keating in my Letter)."
