Bishop would like to know who is using his name in such a manner. He denies ever having mentioned Mrs Parnell other than to ensure F Delaney could understood her better than the foreigners [sic] who preceded him. Suggests that her writing to delay the cheque shows a concern fro Fr Delaney. Hence she should take the cheque herself and talk to Fr Delaney and commiserate with him on his accident, otherwise reconciliation will be more difficult.

Letter of Introduction [not present] for Mgr Redmond, Vice Rector of English College in Rome, to make arrangements to meet the Holy Father. 2 suggested paragraphs for inclusion in her Will to assign a sum to the RC Diocese within which Aldeburgh is situated. £10 to the Sick Clergy Fund will ensure a Mass is said for her by every priest in the Diocese on her death.

Surprised about the criticism in the Aldeburgh Finance Committee letter. The facts are that the whole financial operation is overseen by the Diocesan London Accountants who serve on the Finance Board. The Bishop considers that a lay administrator is not necessary. As with many other dioceses the Episcopal Vicar will be the manager of Finance. The buck stops with the Bishop, anyway.

Bishop advises that deeds for presbytery (Normanhurst plots 34 & 35?) are with Withams. As is the separate deed for church plot. Good idea to have a church hall, but, all costs, etc. must go through Finance Board, which meets on 26 February. Bishop is at the Convent in Ipswich and could deal with the matter himself if it is urgent. Does Fr Jolly know anything about Mrs Spencer of Thoringham, Saxmundham? May have lunch there and might meet Fr Jolly there too.

£20 for Leiston boys will come from Lenten Alms. Problems arranging for priests to cover certain areas e.g. Diss, Eye, Framlingham where there are tiny congregations. Bishop does not have enough priests to meet the needs such as a Travelling Mission, but hopes this will improve in time. The Franciscans have taken over East Bergholt and will be well used. Do not know of any house-keeper - not the only one to ask - domestic situation is getting bad.

Fr Basil Mawson OSB is visiting - may he hear confessions and say Mass? Fr Annotrony[?] plans leave - will you grant permission for this? Fr Donovan was in Dublin and went to a convent to say Mass. The Superioress said that a priest, on sick leave and from Northampton Diocese, was also saying Mass - he was Fr Delaney, however, he has left the place suddenly.

How do things stand with reference to deeds in Aldeburgh? Has one to sell four plots to Mr W C Reade. The other for the church site is held in a bank without being signed by any of the trustees (Bishop, Peacock, Parker, Delaney). This should have been done before the transaction went to the Bank. How are we to know what has been purchased if we do not see the documents? We have no title to the property?

A demand by Mr Yorke for £215 is incorrect. Purchase money for Leiston site was collected by Leiston people. "The nun" left £40 in your hands for purchase of land in Aldeburgh, and a further sum with the Bishop sufficient to complete the purchase of £150. You should contact Mr Yorke and explain the mistake.

Mr Yorke has revealed that the deed for the Church is in Fr Delaney's name and held by the bank. Bishop cannot be asked to sign the deed of sale for the four plots without receiving this deed. Is Fr Delaney going to transfer the deeds as requested? Hope you are making a rapid progress towards complete recovery.
