Ad Clerum - Bishops' Communications to the Clergy

  • GB ARCHON 2913 ADC
  • Fonds
  • 1940 to 2002

An ‘ad clerum’ ( Latin for ‘to the clergy’) is a letter or announcement primarily addressed to ordained ministers from their Bishop.
There are regular, formal notices that the Bishop uses to inform or instruct his clergy for their awareness or action. There are also other ad hoc letters and notes about specific topics.

Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)

Bishop Clark to Fr Birch: letter heading; Tony Sketch; Shrine Council membership; Eucharistic Ministers

  1. Changes to standard letter head - not quite
  2. Many demands in the year hence a gap in replacing Fr Tony Sketch
  3. Muriel Phillips as a member of the Shrine Council - fine
  4. Eucharistic ministers - Sr Eileen easy to re-commission. Cannot recall Peter Whitlock but there is a wider problem in the Diocese about management of Eucharistic minsters - a register must be kept as in recent Ad Clerums

Clark, Alan Charles Rev DD (1919-2002)

Fr Langley to Bishop Clark: UEA talk; Ecumenical Commission; Church Roof; Ad Clerum "error"

Bishop's UEA talk was good - question time response not so.
Accept invitation to serve on the Ecumenical Commission. Church roof needs an architect to investigate some deterioration. Ad Clerum 9/80 (c) (1) - wording emphasises current position that many parish priests hold that the parish is "theirs", whereas Fr Langley thinks a co-responsibility with the parishioners is the ambition of Vatican II, etc.

Langley, Gerard Rev (-1992)

Fr Paul Taylor to Fr McCormick: Suprise to learn of decision from Ad Clerum

Suprise to learn from the Ad Clerum that the decision [to close the Travelling Mission] had already been taken. Copy of letter to Bishop [Grant] enclosed. "Who is going to write the book on CONSULTATION?" The other item in his letter to Charles is another prize example.
