Thain, Wildbur & CoAccounts submitted. Adjustments made to reflect legacy and stock value adjustment. Excess to income over expenditure. Considerable increase in establishment expenses - largely new equipment and repairs
Thain, Wildbur & CoPage 1: letter describing some aspects of the book-keeping system. They are however, "untidy" and "inconsistent" with "small arithmetical errors". Generally adhered to but some reluctance detected. Suggest more adherence checks as "spot checks". Three improvements recommended.

CorrespondentThanks the bishop for calling with the plans but disappointed not to be there to have 5 minute discussion on this matter. It was only on seeing the Tablet article that he became aware that another architect was engaged - hence he then submitted his accounts.
Nicholl, Samuel Joseph (1826-1905)Understand that Fr Wrigglesworth has sent his accounts and letters to the Bishop. Hopes to hear from the bishop.
Nicholl, Samuel Joseph (1826-1905)Nicholl's letter: may admit by silence that they were impossible or impracticable designs. Site difficult and the other side was impractical regarding the design [to cost £1450] as Fr Wrigglesworth had become involved with two architects and had choose. The statement in the Tablet about £2000 being spent on a portion of the design is concerning. Glad to hear that his design may be used elsewhere in the diocese, however it is only fair to pay a very small sum of £20 for what has been done.
Bishop Riddell reply dated 8 February 1897 [copy]: You have no claim whatever because the design would have been rejected by me and it was way beyond the means of the Lynn mission. Design No 2 - you refused to provide an estimate when asked.
The range was provided at cost. The original estimate did not account for the need to make a cylinder specially for the range - which also meant costs associated with new piping and more time from bricklayer and plumber. Requests Fr Heptonstall to meet him on this otherwise he'll be out of pocket.
RF Southgate£359 payment authorised via certificate no. 4 for Messrs Oliver Staines & Son, Swaffham, for work done on the Church of the Annunciation. Prior to final account and its payment, the contractor has to attend to a few items to the satisfaction of the Architects. Portess & RichardsonWoodbridge headed paper: covering letter for accounts [not present] for Fr Bull. Collections held over as will not get into bank until New Year. Attendance figures. No mass today as dare not risk roads so early. Fr Galuel [?] went back to EB [East Bergholt?] by bus.

Warwick, Bernard CNew accountants from Fakenham have prepared and discussed with Fr Wilson the enclosed account to year end 30 November 1985. Quotes a favourable passage from the covering letter. Now in the new office block in the Old School on Friday market Place.
Warwick, Bernard CCovering letter for Accounts which show an encouraging trend. Copies to Mr Duffin and Vicar General. Refers to his recent illness and need to take care.
Warwick, Bernard COne set of accounts for the next shrine council meeting. Since the Appeal office holds all the invoices and the Designated Gift account it would be better to produce it here. Send up to date figures on the General Fund and loan interest with total expenditure.
Tucker, StanFirst look at the financial aspects of Walsingham - a strictly commercial view. 1986 exceptionally high; different picture for 1987? Any projections for the coming year? Requests some statistics for end of year. Trying to identify loss items - but invites Mr Warwick as the "man on the spot" comments. Figures for the Shrine are straightforward; Walsingham Association donation balanced income versus expenditure. Staff costs increased by 31% - any reason? Overdraft limit and interest rate for the Banking Account?
Reverse: "Accounts from Year ended 30 November 1986"
