Welcome to the home page of the Roman Catholic Diocese of East Anglia (RCDEA) Archives.
This is a catalogue of our holdings and provides information about records but not, normally, the item itself. Those that have been digitized are available with their record or, as a group, via the "digital objects" link in the browser menu on the left of the page. For our contact details and information about access to the Archive see here.
We are transferring our records from an Access database and a number of Excel spreadsheets into AtoM. We are also accessing and cataloguing those items which have not made it to a software based index. So, this site is a long term project for the Diocese and will develop slowly but steadily as we organise, catalogue and place our holdings on-line.
As a relatively new Diocese (1976) most of our holdings are within the last 3 or 4 decades and as such generally do not meet the criteria for public access. For example in November 2014, the Bishops’ Conference passed a resolution requiring baptism, marriage and convalidation registers and other registers containing personal data, should not be made available for research until 110 years have passed.
However, this does not mean that we cannot consider a request for access. Permission to access the Archives will depend very much on what is being asked for, its volume and, of course, whether there are any resources available to help meet the request. Please ask - contact details are on our Institution Record.
COPYRIGHT: Items are held by the Archive which have Copyright associated. Where possible we will identify these in our catalogue records. The researcher/viewer wishing to use such items in other works must ensure that they obtain such permissions as are needed from the Copyright holder.
AtoM (Access to Memory) software drives this site. It is a web based archival description application based on International Council on Archives (ICA) standards.
